I will look strictly at Rivals 150 rankings from HS. Again, this isn't what I think. I simply looked at the rankings and who had the most Rivals 4 stars plus Rivals 150 players which includes some 3 stars.

Teams with more talent than Iowa:
Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue, Ohio State, Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska, Penn State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois




Less talent than Iowa:
Rutgers

Interestingly, Rutgers would have surpassed Iowa if Corey Sanders had stuck around.
Wisconsin and Northwestern I believe were barely above Iowa.

He’s much more athletic than Baer, and Baer has terrible defensive awareness. Aside from being a surprisingly decent shot blocker and being ok at jumping passing lanes, Baer is really bad defensively- especially on the perimeter.

I wouldn’t really consider JW skinny- seems to have a pretty standard build for a college basketball player. In any event, he’s not so skinny that he is going to be regularly overpowered and dominated physically.

I think Iowa can improve marginally on defense but I don't know that they will improve enough to make much of a difference because it is their guards that were the biggest weakness on the team in terms of defense. If you can't stop anybody on the perimeter, you don't have much of a chance of being good on defense.

I expect them to be improved, but not to the levels that many hawk fans predict. I can see them improving enough to get a few more wins, but not to launch them into the tourney. Realistic goal should be NIT.
