When watching Sports Sound Off (as well as hearing it from a few others), I've heard Murph refer to the Clones as "I - State" in reference to the new logo. He brought it up with JP last night and JP didn't take a stand one way or the other.

What are thoughts about this? I love the new logo, colors, etc, but I don't like being called I-State. I don't think JP was going for a litteral translation of the new logo. Just look at other logos around the country. Locals don't call Okie State "O-State" do they??

No logo or not, we're still a program in search of an identity. Win, and we'll have one. Continue losing and we'll just try something else in a few years.

We are going to continually be called I-State by people and anybody who thought otherwise was naive.

I thought during the press-releases last year regarding the new logo that they stated that ISU was NOT to be referred to as I-State. It's just a logo, not a name.

To do that is just dumb .... of course, it is Sound Off. Par for the course.

I have noticed that a few times too. At first is bugged me a little but I think it has a nice ring to it and it makes us stand out. I-State for life.

JP basically said that the fans and the media will decide how I-State is used. If I-State becomes our identity, so be it. If not, it doesn't matter. We will always continue to be Iowa State University.

doesn't this topic surface every two weeks? somebody with time poast a couple links.

Murphy is the only one I've heard call ISU "I - State". Let me guess, he tried to be funny too, but wasn't.

It seems to work for K-State (Kansas State).

Right. It's all about branding and identity. We could do whatever we want with naming and logos - but if we don't win - no one will know who we are.

It's no different than big business that do well, or those that don't. The ones that are quite profitable and well known, you rarely see them make name/logo changes. You can easily spot a struggling business by them frequently changing their logo, marketing look/feel, etc.

I have seen an Oklahoma state shirt with O-State on it before., it may have been from Eskimo Joe's.

Oklahoma State has an "O-State" logo, yet, you don't hear them being referred to as such.

Maybe because Okie State just sounds so much cooler!! I don't think I-State has a good ring to it but since the iPod, it may be the trend.

I think Oklahoma State isn't referred to as O-State because there are two other BCS schools that could be O-State (Oregon State and Ohio State). Iowa State is the only BCS school that is I-State.

I'm not a huge fan of being called I-State, but I'm also not going to lose any sleep over it if "I-State" is used in the same sentence as "wins" and "championship."

Because it's my goal in life to be identified as a K-State ripoff...

That's because the OSU logo, the one they use on their football helmets, is their primary logo. The O-State logo is a secondary logo and the only places I've seen it is on the center of the basketball court, the 50 yard line, and some TV identity logos.

So you'd be a fan of "Florida destroys Iowa State - wins championship?"

Didn't somebody post last year that they thought this was a transistion to our school eventually being referred to as just "STATE"? That would be kind of cool...but it would take more than just wanting to be called something..."STATE" would have to garner some attention on the court/field for that to be recognized.
