Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Well he played almost the entire season with a foot injury, so that wouldn’t really be surprising. However, I know you claim to not watch Iowa games, so I’m not sure how you could make that statement.

Any time I watched an Iowa game this last year he was by far the worst defender on the court

He has already shown improvement, so why would you think he would stop improving?

Because he is a defensive liability. What else do I need to say? He will have no one to help him get more open shots and he is slow. Do you understand that?

Those issues existed this season but he still improved. Do you understand that?

I'm pretty sure the narrative on Pemsl coming into the season was that he played through injury his freshmen year and was in great shape coming into year 2. He missed one game last year it looks like. He's just flat out not very good and Fran puts him even farther behind playing him out of position but that's a trend seen up and down the roster.
He had surgery on his Hernia after his Freshman season

You really think he will get better defensively? You're delusional

I think he could. If had had maybe 3/4 of these things.

(1.) A coach or staff that could help him better his technique and positioning. I do not think Matt Thomas' flowering on defense was an accident.

(2.) A coach or staff that could hold him accountable and motivate him on it.

(3.) A coach who could, commensurate with his ability and improvements, design a defensive system to hide him or at least take the pressure off, likely by matching him up with a guard or a wing from the opponent more to his level.

(4.) Good defenders around him -- a good lead defensive guard to take on the opponents' best scoring threat and some decent rim protection/rebounding behind him.

I think he would have these things with Prohm, NWB/Wigginton/Talley/Nixon, and Lard around him in Ames. In Iowa City? Haha, good luck.

(+1 for offense) A coach who realizes they need to have him lurking in the corner or coming off screens to shoot, not trying to create for himself, or a good PG who can handle the ball and find open looks for him. Fat chance on either in Fran Land.

Thomas was big and athletic though

I don't get why these hawk posters are dead set on justifying the **** show Franny has dealt them.

I am going to correct you on the Fake ID thing. Coward removed that label last year after the OSU thumping I believe

The IowaTheFakeID label lives on as Cowherd knows it was years in the making and one game doesn't remove the hype.

And I said he peaked. What is hard about this?

I just don’t understand why you think so. He improved last year. Why was he able to improve last offseason, but suddenly this offseason he has peaked? That doesn’t make any sense.

How can you say with a straight face he improved defensively last year? I notice you keep ignoring this question because you know what you're saying isn't true
