I think he could. If had had maybe 3/4 of these things.
(1.) A coach or staff that could help him better his technique and positioning. I do not think Matt Thomas' flowering on defense was an accident.
(2.) A coach or staff that could hold him accountable and motivate him on it.
(3.) A coach who could, commensurate with his ability and improvements, design a defensive system to hide him or at least take the pressure off, likely by matching him up with a guard or a wing from the opponent more to his level.
(4.) Good defenders around him -- a good lead defensive guard to take on the opponents' best scoring threat and some decent rim protection/rebounding behind him.
I think he would have these things with Prohm, NWB/Wigginton/Talley/Nixon, and Lard around him in Ames. In Iowa City? Haha, good luck.
