You would be the type that like Beth Mowins commentary.Correct
Yeah, but UNI's athletes > Iowa's athletes.
Six workouts is notable. I believe each player has to pay for transportation to the team's cities for the evaluation. Agents pay for that if they are going pro but obviously then Cook would lose eligibility. If nothing else Cook is very serious about declaring and meeting teams to invest the time and money for the visits, especially during May Finals.
Lineups Next Year--
UNI-
PG-AJ Green
SG-Tywhon Pickford
WG-Isaiah Brown
PF-Biggie Goldman (6-10 JUCO that shot 49% from 3 and led team in rebounding)
C-Austin Phyfe
Iowa-
PG-Jordan Bohannon
SG-Isaiah Moss
WG-Joe Weiskamp
PF-Jack Nunge
C-Luka Garza
Usually you look at a Big Ten lineup vs an MVC lineup on paper and there's absolutely no doubt which one you'd take. The fact that you have to think through this one and still aren't exactly sure at the end from a talent perspective tells you all you need to know about Iowa Basketball right now...
Bohannon and Connor at the point
Moss, Dailey, Fredrick (hopefully rs) at SG
Weiskamp, Dailey, Baer
Cook, Nunge,Pemsl, Kriener, Baer
Garza, Kriener, Nunge
That is a decent set up for a push to the bubble, without Cook though we lose to much athleitc ability and who knows if anyone can step up.
While driving I have listened to Vikings games, Chiefs games, Twins games, Royals games, Brewers games, Wild games, I-Cubs games, Panther games, hawkeye games, Gopher games and even high school games of schools I couldn't find on a map. I am not a fan of any of them, but I find sports to be much more effective than music at keeping a tired mind alert.I dont know a single Iowa fan that has ever listened to a radio broadcast of an ISU game.
I don't totally agree with this. To play elite defense you need great athletes but UNI plays pretty good defense on an almost yearly basis and they don't have great athletes. You can play really good defense with good fundamentals and good communication.
Neither do the teams they play.
Virginia has an elite coach and a non-idiot fan base.Same could be said for Iowa's opponents.
Ok, I will give you another team. Virginia. They typically don't have elite athletes.

Well, not all of them.Same could be said for Iowa's opponents.

So they would need what, 8 more wins over last year to get to the bubble?
Which of those positions drive 8 or more wins?
Garza/Kreiner/Nunge - same as last year
Cook/Nunge/Pemsl/Kreiner/Baer - same as last year
Weiskamp/Dailey/Baer - I'll give you a game or two here
Moss/Dailey/Fredrick - same as last year
Bohannon/Connor - I'll give you a game or two hear.
So best case Hoks are looking at 17 wins, maybe 8 in conference - Not bubble worthy
And that assumes there isn't more drama and I bet there is Drama if Dailey and Nunge aren't starters.
We played ISU tight, PSU, MSU, Michigan all with upper classmen that did not want to be there (Uhl, Wagner, Ellingson) now they are gone. Does Cook want to be there? Pemsl? I am not sure what to expect with this team. The formula is there to be a really good fundamental team but Fran's history of defensive philosophy concerns me. All I got is hope.
I will admit that I was bummed when we did not go after a grad transfer harder, but I can see the side of why we didnt. At least I am trying to understand it.
Fran will see this as a win because this will mean that he has two scholarships that won't be tied up in 2019-20 that he can recruit for unlike if he had Cook and a grad transfer on them this fall.Boy, what a mess that's going to look like if Fran loses his best player under odd (yet predictable) circumstances and ends up with two open scholarships in a month
Are you saying you played those 3 teams tight?
Also what side is there to not take a grad transfer?
I think it's pretty obvious that Cook doesn't really 'want' to be there, based on how long he's taking to decide on his future. I can kinda see not wanting to transfer and sit out a year, too. That is a good analysis, but when I look back at some of the close games I keep thinking man just a little defensive adjustment might help. I coach basketball and us as a coaching staff are already game planning what type of defense to teach and how to teach it for next year. This is at the high school level. I just think/ HOPE (big leap of faith here) that Fran is considering the same thing.
