Speaking of archaic names, my grandmother and her sisters were named Esther, Otillia and Lydia.

And speaking of unusual names, CWW#2's first name was Gray. People were constantly dyslexically making it Gary on reservations and such which pissed her off.

My parents did the judge test: would my name sound weird if I became a judge. I like the grandma test, but I think it should be paired with the kid test. Can you see a little kid having that name. For example, Mable is a great grandma name, but I can't imagine a little girl named Mable.

But an issue with all these tests is I imagine they're very context specific. The reason Aiden, Kaiden, Jayden, etc. fail those tests is because those are relatively new names. But if you ask my kids or grandkids, those names will probably pass the judge test, adult test, or grandparent test because they will have heard judges, adults, and grandparents with those names. It's like Mable. It's an old person name to me because I've never heard kids with that name. But if I had gone to school with Mables I'd probably feel differently.

Velo might actually have a good real life example of what I'm referring to. I view Grace like an Elizabeth (a traditional name) rather than an old person name because I knew Grace's growing up

Being married to Gary made you a very progressive couple.

We had a Mabel and Alma sisters, but those weren't uncommon in the 1900s and '10s. One of my son's good school friend's mom is named Alma (she's in her late 20's) but she is hispanic and it is a much more common name in Spanish.

Now I feel bad, Woo. I think you liked my post before I added the picture of C(K)rystal to it. You can remove the like if you want to...
I did, but I'm keeping it up because I think it's funny. Plus, we went to different schools after, so it's not you're making fun of a childhood friend.

I do feel a bit bad for her though because that is one of those stereotypical stripper names, and she can't help that her parents gave her that name

We had 2 girls named Lydia in jazz band this year, not that archaic. :)

I have a friend who purposely used old/classic names, her girls are Mabel, Pearl and Cora.

Names......

Jodie (our oldest daughter) has two adorable little girls, Evelyn and Mabel. Evelyn was my maternal grandmother's name, and she had a sister Mabel. (Plus sisters Marcella, Stella, Beatrice, and Venita.)

When my buddy's wife was pregnant with their third child - a girl - they picked the name Haley. He had a friend at work whose name was Jeff Faley. Jeff decided that Haley was a great name for a little girl, and since his wife was pregnant at the time, they decided to use the name also. Of course my buddy suggested the middle name be Bailey-Fo..........

.......say it out loud, all together......wait for it........
sn't he the guy that took the coin from the dead as they crossed the River Styx into the underworld?

I'd hate to burden a kid with that name. Unless I was certain he was going to grow up to be a professional wrestler, that is. :D
100% correct. Charon was the ferryman into the underworld.....sometimes the fee of a coin was placed on or in the mouth of the dead. If they couldn't pay, they were doomed to wander the shores of the river for a hundred years.

Moral of the story is, go to heaven instead. :)

I met a woman yesterday from the East Coast who was named Khrystal. She has a professional job.

I don't dislike your story just that a father would think it okay to name his daughter Haley Faley.

I almost forgot, my neighbors' new granddaughter is Evelyn. They call her Evy (soft e). And damn is she cute but moody as all get out.

It is. Mabel is more common but Mable is used as well. I just was taking twist on all of our comments about people creating new spellings for existing names to make their kid's life hell.

Oh, and C(K)rystal? I found her:

I’m sure woo would like to catch up with her for old times. I’m sure he’d appreciate her address, go ahead and post it, no need to DM it.
