I don't expect you to know, only Fran knows.
I would expect (hope...) that you would see no matter how that statement is inferred, it doesn't make sense that he doesn't pursue a grad transfer. Iowa's roster situation is perfect for a grad transfer PG...
The only logical reason he refuses to go after a grad transfer guard is because of Connor
Remember, Fran has admitted that he doesn’t understand how transfers work, so I think it’s a combo of Connor (and did he seriously just get a scholly) and ignorance.
Why wouldnt he get a scholly?
Hes on the edge of being a Top 150 player (ranked #151).
I can see your argument if we were talking about Jon Lickliter but thats not the case.
Why would you give your own kid a scholly? If he is so good, the AD will give you a 20k bump to basically give him a free ride (well, 14k since hawk athletes live in free housing). Gives you another free player.
Oh my God, what a f***ing quote. Frame it and mount it above the fireplace.https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/s...er-cook-nba-cordell-pemsl-transfer/507531002/
Bohannon and Kriener couldn’t stomach turning on the TV too much during the NCAA Tournament. When they did, Bohannon called it “frustrating … knowing that we can play with most of these teams out there.”
Iowa vs NCAA teams: 0-9
Iowa vs NIT teams: 0-4
Its because hes good enough.
Didnt have a problem with Brian and James Ferentz getting scholarships and Steve Ferentz having to walk on.
Why should the McCafferys have to foot the bill if their kids are good enough to earn scholarships? Im not sure why you are so bent out of shape about this.
The NCAA limits scholarships because they are valuable and a school can gain a competitive advantage by putting more players on scholarship. If a coach is able to have a scholarship caliber player as a walk on there is a competitive advantage because he is able to essentially turn a walk on slot into a scholarship slot. I don't care what Fran does with his scholarships but it just seems that a guy, especially a guy who regularly goes 10+ deep in his rotation might see value in being able to add another scholarship athlete even if it is a developmental spot that is redshirting for a year or a transfer who is sitting out his transfer year. Why wouldnt he get a scholly?

I'm far from an expert on this, but I believe scholarship players have access to benefits that walk-ons do not. Training, food, academic help, etc.I’m far from bent out of shape on this. I’m actually in favor of both frannys boys being on scholly. I’m just saying, a smart coach and AD would look at this and say, if the coach gets paid more by the amount of his kids schooling cost, we will be able to have 2 extra schollys. An advantage for Iowa, but apparently U if I people are too dumb to do that.

It's not like a coach with a seven digit salary and a $10M buyout can't afford to put his kid through college. Although this is the school where their $4M a year FB coach couldn't afford a place for his kid to live and had to live in subsidized housing so maybe things are really expensive in Iowa City.

I know I've heard about this in football when a walk on earns a scholarship.
Pretty sure the scenario you describe would be a at the very least a breach of ethics...I’m far from bent out of shape on this. I’m actually in favor of both frannys boys being on scholly. Anyway, both his kids are good enough to get scholarships so I have no problem with it. (If your advice were followed they'd basically have 15 scholarship players and Fran has enough problems already with the rotation.....no thanks!)![]()
but 5 stars! How do we know both kids are good enough for a scholarship? Not saying they aren't but that's a little premature considering Connor redshirted last year and Patrick is 150 lbs and both carry some red flags with them
but 5 stars!
Connor wasn't even a top 50 player and Patrick isn't even close to 5 stars and he'll slide as he gets older. He's already old for his grade and still is too thin to compete at the P5 level
You're better than this....they're obviously good enough. I won't debate you on this because it's silly. How do we know both kids are good enough for a scholarship?
