considering that different Native American groups have been protesting Chief Wahoo since the 70's, I think your ire might be somewhat misguided. Thanks, social media.

The Spiders were historically bad. As a name would the House of David be acceptable?Sucks for the die hard fans like my brother-in-law, but this is the right move. They've been using the block C logo for a few years now anyway.
I do like the idea of the spiders.
No ire here, sir. Just saying social media has obviously had a massive affect on movements like this, for better or worse. So after 40 years of unsuccessful protests, twitter comes along and boom, Cleveland Spiders.considering that different Native American groups have been protesting Chief Wahoo since the 70's, I think your ire might be somewhat misguided.
They should just switch to the Cleveland Spiders already.
Time to do away with all team names and logos, just go to the name of city or state. Cleveland baseball team that sounds great...
This will eliminate anyone getting offended, and we can stop having debates over names, logos, and other political issues.
I dislike people that give their time, but don't expect payment in return.
I'm looking at you Tennessee Volunteers.
I think the big issue is certain Native American advocate groups aren’t interested in finding a middle ground. Like I said earlier I think this one in particular would have gone away much earlier if that was the case. As lon. As you have groups who continue to fight against non offensive things you will have people skeptical of even more simple ones to change.I understand that people are sick of having to be "PC" all the time, but does it really hurt anyone to not officially endorse a logo that is a caricature of Native American stereotypes? No one is going to force you to burn your Yahoo merchandise and the team has been using the 'C' for a while now.
While making an uproar about offending Native Americans seems like a big deal about not much, freaking out about having to change a logo is an even bigger deal about even less.
If I was a hardcore Indians fan I might be a little sad that something I've enjoyed since childhood is being change, but it doesn't change your memories and it shouldn't really affect you that much.
Does it really hurt anyone to be a little more considerate about what we think is ok to do? Even if there's not a huge outrage from the Native American people that still exist, why does that make it a perfectly ok thing to do?
Only if the Reds change their name to the bow-tie'sOr the Steamers.

This link kind of explores it. I haven’t fully read it but I know that there are cases where groups have fought against teams being the Indians. Those schools don’t have logos like Cleveland. That’s probably the biggest obstacle because many myself included don’t feel eager to compromise with people who aren’t interested in finding a common ground that respects and admired their culture.
Saw this on reddit, the Cleveland Buckeyes, which was the old negro league team from Cleveland. Take a negative and turn into a positive and be the team to represent that entire league.
Now Ohio State would never allow it, but something that honors the Negro League would be awesome

It's still at least somewhat respectful and much better than a racial slur.
Peter-I'm not bent out of shape, nor does it impact me. I want to get to a point where we can enjoy sports without political issues. That's all
Hell of an effort on the movement offended white people!

People like to be offended at stuff. Even when it's not offensive. These Indian Logo's are not offense to most Native Americans. I am not offended by the Fighting Irish Logo or name and I am Irish. I don't think it honors us as Irish people and it plays into a stereotype about us getting drunk and into fights. However, oh well it's not a big deal. They named that team based on us being knows as fighters. Just like The Indians were named that because of the Tribes in Ohio and them being strong.
This is all just politically correct crap. The only people who are offended are white people who like to be offened at everything for every thing that happens. They have done polls and most Native Amercians can give a rip less about a team or logo being about them.
