MLB: ***Official Cubs Offseason Thread***

I'm hoping the market kind of fell out on Darvish and we can get him at a decent price.

Also, for some reason I'm still really high on Russell. I'd give him one more year to see if the bat comes around before considering unloading him. I'd much rather part with Schwarber.
Think I'm the opposite. Schwarber has the chance to be an elite bat and I think with his weight loss and hopefully more and more experience he can be a serviceable outfielder. Russell already is close to an elite SS (has some trouble with routine plays every now and then) but I don't see him ever being much more than a .250 hitter. I would like to just keep both anyway

I said in pressure situations. I could of pitched a gem against the Cubs in the NLCS this year...

Regardless of who you're going against, pitching in the NLCS is a **** ton of pressure. It's like people only watched the world series and actually forgot how damn good Darvish is. He was tons better than Arrieta last year.

He has had two starts where his teams backs were against the wall in the playoffs, and he hasn't pitched well in either. There was a wild card start that he did well in, however. I acknowledge that he is a great pitcher, just question his ability under pressure.

I suppose you wouldn't want Kershaw because he "can't perform under pressure" either

No surprise. Looks like Wade Davis is gone.
Kind of surprising: Heading to Colorado.

Having an interesting debate with some buddies on Facebook.

Two questions, answer both if you got time.

1. Would you prefer the Cubs sign Lorenzo Cain and Alex Cobb in free agency or sign Darvish and trade 2 MLB players for Christian Yelich

2. Would you trade Russell and Almora for Yelich and Castro

My answers

1. Sign Darvish and trade for Yelich.

2. I'd take the trade. Assuming Harper comes to the Cubs, the worst OBP from 2017 out of Contreras, Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Bryant, Heyward, Schwarber, Yelich, and Harper is Heyward's at .312. Our offense would be in consideration for the best offense in history, in my opinion, considering 3 of those guys get on base 4 out of 10 times, and all but 1 of those 10 have the ability to go yard 20+ times a season.

We would lose a lot defensively, however.

The waiting on guys like Darvish, Arrieta, Cobb, Machado, etc. is killing me.

Heard something this morning that there are guys out there saying they are willing to wait until the summer to sign deals if they dont get what they want in the off season.
