Ayeni to NW

Would love to see us go after Jeff Horton at SDSU a lot of their running backs are similar to the backs Ayeni likes

Ayeni was a holdover from the Rhoads staff. A big loss (obviously could find RB talent), but there is no doubt that Campbell & Co. will find a worthy replacement.

Ayeni was hired by Rhoads from where?

Toledo, where he recruited and coached the NFL's leading rusher this year.

Whose staff was he on when he left Toledo?

Matt Campbell's. Ayeni is a Campbell guy, not a Rhoads guy.

I am well aware.

Regardless, it's not surprising to see somebody go back to their alma mater.

They'll find a good replacement.

Alma Mater, pay raise, if you are a "city guy" then I'm sure ready to move on from Ames. Northwestern also opening up a brand new FB facility this summer right on Lake Michigan that costs like over 200 million dollars:

Like most highly regarded assistant coaches, his career goal is to become a head coach. The best path to this end is usually to broaden your experiences by working at different schools under different coaches.

Ayeni is an interesting coach in that he is a very good recruiter and running back coach and seems like he will make a good head coach someday, but he doesn't seem like he will be a successful offensive coordinator between those two things.

This opens up a lot of money to give raises to the assistants and bring in a new running back coach because Ayeni was the third highest paid assistant.

I imagined we would lose him at some point to a more powerhouse program, but Northwestern is a surprise especially with what we having coming back. Perhaps he thought he needed to get out of Campbell's shadow to expand his resume for a head coach opportunity.

Actually, a repeat of Toledo to ISU jump. He left Toledo and most of current ISU staff when they were at Toledo when they had Kareem Hunt and other very talented backs. It was obvious that Toledo staff would be moving up. Didn't stop him then, didn't stop him now.

He did play at Northwestern. Just going home!

Who happened to of come from Toledo and most of current staff. Quite a bit different than a "holdover from old staff." JUST SAYING. He is just going home!

It probably wouldn't be the right move, but I wonder if Jake Waters would be in the mix? Obviously he's young, but I think he was moving to some small Texas school as an assistant. It seems like he was valuable as a grad assistant.

Yeah, I get that. I didn't mean it like it sounded.

Essentially I was getting at that he had been at ISU for a long time (for a position coach) and was successful. I figured he would go somewhere else soon.

Will be interested to see the 'explanation' for why LA would take a lateral move from a staff that has been viewed as a cohesive unit.

Probably has wanted to coach at NW for a few years and the job opened up for him...not much of an explanation needed and makes total sense.

Big loss as the RB position has been pretty good but I don't have doubts about CMC finding the right fit.

Don't know what he made at Toledo, but if his raise going to NW is a similar jump to when he came here, can't blame him.
