Iowa Football Recruiting

Probably won't see playing time until Boyle graduates?

Probably not until at least Stanley leaves. Been hearing pretty good things about Mansell too. Guessing that whoever loses the Petras/Mansell QB battle in a few years will probably transfer out. Could be wrong on that and that is a long ways away at this point.

So I just looked and ISU is in fact ranked #55. Iowa is now #36.

More importantly according to some on this board is how you rank inside your own conference. ISU is 8/10 with the lowest average recruit ranking in the conference. Iowa is 8/14 with the seventh highest average recruit ranking in the conference.

Average UI recruit ranking by 247: 86.7.

Average ISU recruit ranking by 247: 83.8.

Monstrous 3-point disparity. Blue-blood level recruiting by UI.

Since 2008, Iowa has only had a three point disparity over ISU once and that was in 2011. Most of the time ISU is within a point of average recruit ranking.

I'll be sure to note that we're due for 4 or so years of sadness due to this markedly huge disparity. Fun while it lasted, I guess.

Also doesn't help our class rank that we have a "2-star" punter in it, but I suppose it can't really move the average a whole lot. We are bottom-heavy for some reason, though - we have only 7 recruits below our class average and 11 above it.

You guys need to hope that Campbell can develop players like Ferentz otherwise the recruiting rankings will have to get much better. He is off to a good start so far that is for sure.

I'm the opposite of a recruiting guru and I'm not trying to get into a pissing match but isn't this class suppose to be "bad" for ISU by Matt Campbell standards? Aren't we taking less players this year and 2 of them kickers? Doesn't volume of kids really boost ratings and we won't have as many players? Regardless, Iowa has really stepped it up the last couple of years, coincidentally when ISU picked it up it seems.

Another QB doesn't solve Iowa's problem; when you have a group of receivers that run 4.7 at best you're not going to move the ball in the air. Lazard is our slowest receiver at 4.6- 4.65 (with massive size advantage to offset that) and would likely be the fastest at Iowa.

I don't hope he develops like Kirk, so far he seems to do a better job so that would be a step back.
