How concerned should we be about the offense?

We are on track to have the highest offensive output per game since something like 1976, we sit at 6-2 with two of the elite defenses of the big 12 in our rear view mirror and a Kansas game that had a lot of water, maybe I'm just drinking from a keg of kool aid but I feel like our offense is doing what's being asked of it and then some.

It's concerning I suppose but they're finding ways to do enough and in some crucial moments. TCU was really, really good.

I think ISU also has some big stats in field position, so long drives aren't going to be as common.

A bit more push in the run game would obviously help; repeating but I swear they've been close all season.

It would be nice to have WV continue with their porous defense but not counting on it.

With 255 yards of offense. That gets to the crux of my question, can we honestly expect the defense to force multiple red zone turnovers and hold teams scoreless on a consistent basis?
I hear your question. When we play Alabama's defense in the NC game, then I'll worry. You do know the defensive stats for every other defense in the B12 besides TCU, Okla, and us is not very good?

We've been playing some of the best defenses in the nation. You think TCU or OK or TTech are asking themselves the same thing?

There's exactly one elite defense in that group and two absolutely dreadful ones.

Jesus, we just had the best month of football we’ve ever had.

Offense was excellent against Oklahoma. Offense was good in bad weather against Kansas. Offense was great in first half of tech. Offense was good in first half of TCU.

We aren’t playing sisters of the poor (except for the Jayhawks). We have to remember who we’re playing. Sometimes I think we forget. Hell, CW picked us to lose against TCU because their defense was so great, but today was talking about how TCU might not be that good. Just because we beat a team doesn’t mean they suck.

And our offense was pretty ******* good against 3 of those 4.

I was beginning to worry. I hadn't seen a thread in awhile complaining or worried about something on our football team that is playing as well as they've played in more than a decade, on a four game win streak, and beating 2 top 5 teams.

And to actually speak to the question, I am not worried. It would be nice to put up 400 yards and 40 points every game, but it's just not going to happen. And, as long as we keep winning, I couldn't care less if we fall to the bottom of the offensive rankings in FBS.

Others have covered it well... We've played some stout Ds to keep the stats down so far in conference play being TCU and Texas. Obviously, we now know Texas was the anomaly.

Oklahoma we put up some good numbers on.

Kansas... well... our offensive play calling was VERY vanilla until Zeb got in. Between, the rain and special teams getting you some points and brilliant field position and Kansas being Kansas... Nothing was expected of our offense.

I feel pretty well where the offense is right now. Looking at the WV D numbers, they have given up big points and yards in conference play. Conference opponents (including Kansas) have scored at least 31 on them. I see no reason why we shouldn't as well. Admittedly I haven't watched much of anything with them this year and don't exactly know where their defensive weaknesses lie.

The offense isn't lighting it up, but it's not turning the ball over and has had some short fields due to the defense. Plus you can afford to be a bit more conservative when the D is playing like this.

TCU has a very good defense. Won't see anything close to it the rest of the season (until we play TCU again in December).

UT = 260 yds and 7 pts Loss, bad game, and pre Kempt
OU = 450 yds and 38pts
KU = 320 yds and 45 pts very wet and starters out most of 4th
TT = 400 yds and 31 pts
TCU = 255 yds and 14 pts. tough day, but got the job done against best D in the conference and one of the top in the country.
I don't see a problem, especially when our D is doing so well. If you actually look at each game you won't see a problem.

UT: -114 vs their season average allowed

Would not call those numbers good outside OU.

Well you are clearly determined to be worried about it. Go forth and panic.

But....I wouldn’t even consider Texas. That wasa ****** up game with a QB who may have already been dealing with personal health issues. Kansas, even you should be able to awknowledge the reality of the weather. It also seems we are running less plays.

Are we an elite offense? Nope, we weren’t before Kempt and we aren’t after. But we are good enough to be 6-2.

So is your complaint that we are not putting up enough yards or what? This is a team game, and every unit is contributing to our wins. Do we have the best offense in the Big 12, absolutely not. We don't need the best offense in the Big 12 when the other units are able to contribute the way they have.

Why does it seem we rarely run wide or around the end?

Because that's certain death and that's not what Montgomery is good at.

Listen, our offense isn't that good. The line has struggled and we are a little bit vanilla in the passing game. We haven't shown the ability to do much of anything in the middle of the field.

All that said, it's mattered in one game. The offense lost a game and the defense lost a game. Then the offense won a big game and the defense won a big game.

To me, this is a great source of optimism. We are winning games without one side of the ball being consistently good. Let the line work in a 2 years or so and it will be better. Give Manning little time to figure out how to be an OC and everything will be good.

We've faced both of the other team teams in the Big XII w/ defenses so I'm guessing the Offense will start getting healthy soon.

The offense is ok and the defense is excellent. That is our teams identity. The job for the offense is to be opportunistic and not **** up and put the defense in a bad position. No worries.
