The Wave

Please don't do this. Nothing says "little brother" more than jumping on the bandwagon of a feel-good tradition that doesn't even make any sense from Ames. How many kids in Iowa City will even be watching that game on TV, anyway? And I doubt the camera crews will capture it live. They'll be on commercial break.

Yes. I saw Michigan State fans did it when Iowa played there. Wherever Game Day was that day waved as well.

A live feed in to the hospital? It's called television.

How about if their football team goes out on the field on Saturday afternoon and waves to the kids, then goes inside to visit them? Much better continuity...

Idea... Instead of waving, how about an effort to raise some money for the children's hospital prior to the game?

Could be something as simple as bringing spare change to donate on game day... "Change for Children" or something along those lines. If 50,000 fans each brought a quarter, that'd be $12,500.

Or could start a GoFundMe online if that'd be easier for everyone. "Cash for Kids" in that case.

It gets a crapload of exposure and already and provides a bunch of free advertising for Iowa Football. Congrats to them for coming up with it but I don't see why we should give them yet another free ad.

Besides, the whole "new tradition" for something that really is just "new" always reminds me of those ESPN ads calling football on new years eve a "new tradition" that they had to abandon after a couple of years because ratings were so bad.

They are requesting that since they are on a bye week, and that the Cyclones are at home, that ISU does it after the 1st quarter this Saturday vs KU. My first reaction is... Just another thing that Hawk fans will b**** about us "copying" them. But if this is something that the people that "created" this tradition wanted us to do, would it be such a bad thing to do for the kids? Just wanted some feedback. And no, I don't follow hawkeye heaven, but I had an Aunt (who is the only hawk fan in our family) share the post. Just trying to get the idea rolling...

It's never the wrong thing to try and help sick children. Put aside all Hawk partisanship and try and give a kid a smile. Makes it a better world for those in need at least for a bit.

These types of things are better when they are spontaneous and not forced. The waves that MSU fans did when they hosted Iowa, when the Va Tech Gameday crowd did it after the segment about this aired on Gameday and the ESPN crew at the Chiefs Monday night game a couple weeks back were all unexpected and really a cool thing to do.

I think it would be great if ISU did it and dont really see an issue if they decline to do it. These things should not be coerced.

As someone who has spent some time at that Children's Hospital, I love the tradition. But like so many things in this world, there is no sense in over thinking it. People at an Iowa home game should wave to the kids watching the games. That's really it.
