I haven't read this whole thread ( not going to either), but my gut reaction is that we lost this game because our linebackers and secondary (especially Lanning) took terrible angles when Iowa ran the swing passes and crossing routes to their backs. They must have gained at least 100 yards after the catch because we were either late to react or simply didn't take the right angle to make a play. That is correctable so it gives me hope for future games.

This is a definite positive from the game. In any given year the first (and often best) test of our OL and DL is the Iowa game. Most years Iowa's lines dominate ours, and their lines this year were better than ours as well, but Campbell has closed the gap drastically. Park was protected nearly all game long and the defense showed signs of breakthrough at times today, just shutting down Iowa's offense for lengths of time. There is still work to be done, though. Can you imagine if Montgomery had holes to run through instead of getting him open space via formation manipulation and playcalling?
Not sure I'd put that one in the "correctable" category. At least not a problem that gets corrected over the course of a season. Especially for Lanning, who hasn't played defense in years.
I hate moral victories (and losing to bleeping Iowa) but this program is making progress and progress is a good thing!
Wadley will do that to every team's LB corps and secondary. He's damn good in that role.

Not saying you're wrong but Iowa scored TDs on 2 or perhaps even all 3 of the drives where he overthrew his receivers on long passes.
I really didn't think he was much coming in. But that's a decent QB, as much as I hate to say it.

I actually thought the D-Line did very well. There was very little running room inside. Our LBs need to get to the point of attack faster.
Wait...what? Iowa has a reputation as one of the worst offensive teams in college football, had a first year starter making his debut on the road, and they scored 44 points (38 in regulation) and had 500 yards of offense on us...AT JTS. The defense is just bad. Really bad.
There's 60 minutes in a game. There is never a single play that loses the game for any team.
Wadley is a top player he makes everything pretty easy for the QB and TEs on Iowa.
While that pick didnt lose us that game, it took a TON of momentum out of our sails. Big blow to a team still trying to figure it out.
No, a loss today is a prime example of two teams slugging it out and one making just enough plays to come out on top. It has nothing to do with the past or the future.
I don't think the officiating lost the game for the Clones today either. Blown coverages, terrible tackling, dropped passes, and some first-half butterflies for #10 were the biggest contributors to today's ISU loss.
That said, you can't judge officiating by on a "fair and balanced" basis. Sometimes, one team plays a sloppy game, and another team doesn't. That was the case today. There were a couple more terrible holding penalties Iowa could have been called for. And, as mentioned above, the missed offensive PI was awful. Let's not forget the side judge trying to give Iowa a first down by spotting the ball forward a full yard.
If you feel that the reffing was one-sided, I invite you to talk about specific plays that support your argument. Yes, I'm an ISU fan, so I'm biased. But I like to think that I'm fairly impartial when it comes to officiating. I'll call out ISU fans for wearing cardinal glasses when they complain about calls.
Yep, I'm really not sure our defense is any better from last year at all. Honestly our offense will be the one to keep us in games. Have we ever been able to say that before?
He was also on their team last year when their offense was pathetic. For that matter, he was also on their team LAST WEEK when their offense was pathetic. Wyoming held them to 24 points and 240 yards in Kinnick.
Except in OT and one play wins it.
