I have a spreadsheetso doesn't take long.

I got annoyed when people say "pass happy" big 12 or the big 12 plays no defense. Both are myths. So I started a spreadsheet documenting both. Pretty easy to insert the stats for P5 teams at the end of the year. The rest is formulas.

About the only phrase that holds true in for the big tin."three yards and a cloud of dust" still a slow paced run oriented league. Except for a couple teams. Slower pace means fewer plays and fewer possessions. A lot of similar style offenses so week to week prep is easier. Yet when a spread offense comes to town... That offense scores.

What's funny is when the Big 12 scores a lot...there is no talent on defense. Does that mean the big tin has no talent on offense since they don't score? How about the ACC and PAC 12 who score about the same as the Big 12? No talent on defense there?

Those are the points scored by ISU since Ferentz became head coach. 16 PPG average over the last 18 years in regulation.


The Clone fans who think ISU is just gonna run up and down the field on Iowa don’t even understand the history of this series even when ISU has been competitive. If ISU scores more than 24 points in regulation it will be only the second time they have done that during the Ferentz Era.


For those reasons I predict Iowa will win 27-20.

Nothing is worse than a game without defense. A 27-24 game is about perfect. You have some scoring, you have some defense. That is a good balance. 45-42 is boring crap football. 9-6 is boring crap football. 17-14 is fine, 35-31 is fine. Too extememe either way is boring football to me.
