All Iowa Football Team

I expect this team to be roughly half (or more) ISU by the end of the year, but agree with most of the iowa fan one posted earlier in the thread for now.

The toughest thing is I bet Iowa wins a close one this year, only because it's an early season game and our strength (DBs) doesn't match up with their strength (OL/Running). I can see it being like when you're playing NCAA and someone runs the same play over and over and over again. They aren't actually better, they're just exploiting one stupid play. That and I think ISU's drives will be so quick due to Park, AL and team. So I think our defense will get worn out by the end due to being on the field so much.

Hope I'm wrong.

This is really something.

After 1976, you are only the 2nd Tavern Clone I've ever encountered on this site. Bully for you.

I was considering it but didn't want to be called a homer. Judging by the open practice yesterday, those vouching for Butler over Montgomery have a decent argument as well.

Butler over Montgomery is a no brainer really. From some of the stuff I'm seeing, I don't think Montgomery even holds off Warren.

AJ won't start from day one, but by midsession he is going to be a force. Heck they slide last years starter (Matt Nelson) To DT is seems already.

These threads are so pointless at this time of the year. Maybe halfway through the year or at the end they could be fun. Last year in August there was a beathard vs Lanning thread lol

Lanning > Beathard as an overall football player but Beathard > Lanning as a QB

Exactly. My go to has always been Jamarcus Russell > Tom Brady as an overall football player but Tom Brady > Jamarcus Russell as a QB.

I probably wouldn't sleep on Iowa's two CBs. Both are exceptionally athletic and are going to be pretty good. As for WR, who knows? Vandeberg was on his way to a standout season and they did lose another WR who has a pretty good chance of making an NFL roster this year. The passing game just didn't gel for a number of reasons, including pass protection and predictability. Teams just teed off on the OL in pass pro.

Iowa is actually deeper at WR than a year ago, and much deeper than they were in spring ball. but very unproven and outside of Vandeberg and Fant at TE. We can't really put the others in the starting lineup or in depth chart ahead of ISU's group. Lazard isn't the fastest guy in the world but he's pretty big target and fast enough to get open when he has to. I'd probably go with Iowa's RBs over the ISU guy. The Mountain West isn't exactly a pushover and he's already turning heads with his running ability and versatility.

Iowa is probably deeper at 2-3 positions along the OL than ISU, but Campos probably should get the nod at one of the tackles. I'm not sure how his previous injuries have limited his effectiveness but we'll see. If there were a 2 deep of OL guys, you'd probably see Iowa holding 7 of the 10 spots. Park should be the starter at QB regardless. He's the only one with much game experience too..

I'd probably give Iowa the nod for at least 3/4 of the defense including all the LBs. Neimann at OLB can cover a lot of ground and Jewell is one of the best in college football. Bower will likely be an honorable mention All Big 10 type if he stays healthy-he did have 91 tackles last year at WLB . I'd put Rugamba and Cotton-Moya at DB. Hesse and both Nelsons probably would be #1 on the DE depth chart at ISU. The same with Bazata at DT, but Iowa's other DT is talented but unproven. I would even start both of ISU's 2 CBs but could be singing a different tune at the end of the season. Rugamba is a ball hawk who can run.

So it went over your head. Not surprising.

Being a good athlete doesn't make one a good football player. Russell = bad football player. Tom Brady = HOF football player. CJ Beathard = NFL caliber football player. Lanning = not draftable

I do agree with most of your post.

The OL would certainly be mostly Iowa players on the 2 deep. A few ISU guys who have potential but have yet to prove it are Bryce Meeker, Oge Udeogu and Josh Knipfel. Knipfel in particular intrigued me because he blew up late in recruiting before reclassifying to 2017 and signing with ISU.

Bazata looks like a decent player but it appears that Lattimore has more potential. I really like what Ray Lima brings to the table, but we'll wait to see how that translates to game action.

The one thing I will disagree with is JaQuan Bailey at DE. I really liked what I saw from him last year and I think he has a very high ceiling. Impressed me as a true freshman.
