Summer Concert Thread

Also, who all again was going to Hinterland? I've been prepping all week. Last Friday, I listened to the Hinterland playlist on Spotify that had some of everything. Listened to everything Alt-J has put out on Monday. Listened to all things Gary Clark, Jr yesterday. Today is devoted to Ryan Adams. Tomorrow will probably be either Shakey or him mixed with Head and the Heart.
I look forward to seeing him live, his recording are just all-right to me..... I could only pull Saturday only, so a bit disappointed about Alt-j

I am the same way - I love his live recordings and albums and videos. He's okay on his studio stuff, but his live stuff is so much more raw.

I'll try and get some video of Alt-J. :) I am really excited about seeing them, although I'm not sure how their style translates to live? They have such a fuzzy, mellow sound, I'm curious how it will work.

I have been enjoying JD McPherson, from the Saturday lineup. I hadn't really listened to much of his stuff before, but he has a great bluesy sound.

I heard the Alt-J live show is pretty amazing actually, I read on the register that they do a pretty big productions with their live show, a lot of good reviews out there about it too...

JD McPherson is getting very overshadowed by the rest of the lineup Saturday but I 100% agree is throwback blues sound is going to super great live...

Don't forget Nikki Lane, so much of her vocals reminds me of the highlight for me last year, Shovels and Ropes(Cary Anne Hearst)....

Can't forget the vetran of the lineup in Dwight too...!!!!

To me from McPherson, Lane, Graves, Dwight, Clark Jr, and Adams..... Has to be one of the better bills I have ever seen at a festival... I hope the weather holds out, rain chances have increased all week....

It's a pretty amazing line up - and that's so good to hear about Alt-J!

Shovels and Rope are going to be at Codfish Hollow in a few weeks, I'm bummed to be missing them - so I'll have to give Nikki Lane more of a listen! Dwight is a little too twangy for me, and her stuff had been a bit country for my usual interests - but I'm so excited!

Try her track 'Love's on Fire'.... Duet with Dan Auerbach. He actually produced that whole album too... All or Nothin

I've seen Alt-J live before and they are fantastic, you won't be disappointed. I can't wait till Friday night.

That is SO good to hear. I had heard some live recordings, but hadn't YouTubed their live stuff or anything. I'm really pumped - I'm very curious who will be the best live.

Gary Clark Jr this Friday at Palace Theatre!

Also just bought tickets for Iron and Wine with John Moreland opening at Palace Theatre in October. Will be buying tickets for Ghost of Paul Revere at 7th St Entry when they go on sale Friday

I'll be at the Iron and Wine show. Have you seen a concert at the Palace Theater? What are your thoughts on it? I was going to pay for loge seating but they were sold out before I could get them. Looks like General Admission for us.

I'm super-excited for Gary Clark, Jr at Hinterland on Saturday. I think he's likely the act I am most excited to see, since I've already seen Ryan Adams and Shakey. Alt-J is up there, too.

Iron and Wine put on a great show, from what I hear!

Up-thread, I'd discussed how pissed I am that Beck is going to be in Iowa while I'll be at a big festival in KC. Earlier this week, Codfish Hollow announced that Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats (as well as him solo the night before) will be headlining GARP that same weekend. They said he'll be there every year, though, so I'm locking that **** down for next year.
Jealous you are going to Hinterland! That lineup is stacked.

That's awesome! I want to see Nathaniel Rateliff so bad!

I have GA as well. I haven't been to a show there yet. Gary Clark Jr. will be my first show there and that is this Friday. I will report out on how it is!

Same here! He is way up there on my list of must-sees!

I saw him at People's downtown eight or nine years ago when he was the lead singer for a band called Nathaniel Rateliff and the Wheel. The band was just Ok but what he's doing now is so much better suited to his voice. Enjoy the show!

Those of you going to Hinterland you're in for a treat with Gary Clark jr. Absolutely fantastic performance last night. I love his albums but his live performance is even better.

Also, Jackie Venson opened for him and she was awesome. She gained a new fan last night for sure.

Palace Theater is a really cool venue. Good acoustics and a cool old building. I'm even more excited for this show now

He was just amazing. I got up super-close for him (he's the only act I went down near the stage to see), and he just oozes style, cool, and talent:

Was anyone planning on going to this? It was officially scrapped last night. I hadn't heard a thing about it until today, but it sure looks that for being two weeks out, the organizers were nowhere close to ready.
That is too bad, it seems like a really good idea for local music to be showcased. Rather scrap it and start planning for next year than ending up like the FYRE Festival.

When I first heard of this festival I was thinking that Minnesota should do something of the sorts, as the Twin Cities and beyond have a large music scene, so it's too bad that this one will have to wait before we get a platform like that for local music.

But again, better to make sure you give the experience that you want/envision rather than saying "screw it, lets try to make it work!"

I'd gotten a flyer on my car the first night of Hinterland, and thought it was sort of interesting. But I also got the feeling it was sort of last minute.
