It looks like it is popular in a lot of college towns in the northern half of the country.

College students - Embarrassing our nation since 1636 (with a short break from 1987-1991).

Eh I enjoy it.

I'll put it on when I get back from work in the background while I'm doing other stuff around the place as it can have an occasional laugh and I don't have to follow it closely to know what is going on.

Similar to the memes that state if you don't like baseball or find it boring it's because it's a smart person's game. Well, TBBT is a smart person's show. :jimlad

This. It's mostly just drivel with some "nerd" terminology sprinkled in, so people call it a "smart" show. It isn't.

Maybe but that would seem to be reason for it to be more popular in the the dumb states of the deep south. That map reads like a national test score illustration. Show probably needs more confederate flag waving or something?

I knew when I clicked on this thread that it would immediately devolve into bashing the show, particularly ripping on shows with a laugh track. Like every time a thread about the Big Bang Theory has been posted.

It is not the greatest comedy of all time. It is also not the worst show ever aired on TV.

Lots of cheap laughs and not a lot of actual science, but I still find it entertaining, which is the point of watching sitcoms.

I know some of you wont watch a show unless it challenges you intellectually, but most of the country doesn't have such discerning tastes.

As for the actual topic of this thread. I'm not surprised that the show is popular with college educated people. While some of you dislike the nerd references on the show, it does require some education to get some of the jokes.

I literally made the comment to my dad last night that people apparently watch this show. It is cringe worthy attempts at comedy.

I actually watched the first season in its entirety, hoping it would be a decent show. I just couldn't take it and I think it's gotten worse since then.

There's at least some acting talent and redeeming qualities to The Big Bang Theory.

I just cannot suspended disbelief that people who all make over $100k in their professional lives would live in the same apt for 7 years, wear the same goofy clothes, and in general act that way. They are top earners in the US based on their jobs and yes, they do anything they want to because of their income, it seems odd they've all just stagnated in the same building for the better part of a decade.

Routine-driven people don't like change.
How in the world is anyone convincing Sheldon to move?

Prepared to find out that's happened. I haven't kept up for a couple years.

People unable to suspend disbelief are not the target audience of any prime time network comedy.

Socially awkward people do odd things. There have been cases of brilliant scientists that squirrel all of their money away and never spend any of it because they don't feel they need to.

Nerdy guys do live with their mothers even when they have good jobs.
