***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

Somebody needs to show that to CMC and share that with the football team - I know the lamb joke about tickets to the ISU vs Kansas football game pisses me off.

As far as expansion to me this whole process has been handled poorly at best - if the conference would have done this quietly and more professionally the Big 12 had a shot with PAC 12 schools just because of the money they are not making but instead the Big 12 performs this circus. There are times I want to kick UT and OU to the curb and add Houston, UC, BYU and CSU and move on. I know UT and OU are the standard bearers and most of our money comes because of their brand but it sure would be nice to be in a conference where everyone wants to be.

The fools that want to bring in old WAC teams like Colorado St and Houston to the Big 12 smoke a lotta crack

And to lose 80,000-100,000 venues with teams like Nebraska, A&M and replace them with crap? Are you serious ?

It's the fastest way to force Texas and OU to vacate the Big 12... And leave ISU in serious jeopardy

If some of you think we'll prosper without these anchor schools, you smoke even more crack. ISU desperately needs this conference to stay intact

Fire Bowlsby and hire jim Delaney

Bowlsby nothing but a passive elitist.

We first let Florida state, Clemson, and then Louisville get away from consideration, and now we are interviewing UCF? Memphis ? Good lord how stupid has this become

What an interesting article! Good post. Univ of Houston is spending at an unmanageable rate to demonstrate that it is worthy of a Power 5. However, it spent $45M last year on athletics and K-State (lowest spender in the Big 12) spent $67M. The article says that UH will never be able to match Texas or OU facilities and will be a “future Iowa State”
But also the article says that the city of Houston is trending away from being a Big 12 town toward being a SEC town. Last year of the 10 highest rated games on TV in the city, six were SEC games, two were UH games, and two were Big 12 games.
The article also talks about UH fanbase feeling F'ed from being left out of the original mash-up of the SWC and Big 8 and are feeling sort of entitled to being invited. And the article says the OU president is an egomaniac. Anyway, good article

And if everyone thinks that will happen then maybe they should add 4 schools and try to prepare the best they can for that eventuality. Prepare to make the conference as strong as we can with what's available so when they do leave we still have a 12 school conference. Then if we get an invite from another conference we can decide to stay or go - not a great option but do the best with what you have.

In other words, you don't have any solutions either. ALL league options, as of right now, are far less than ideal. The best ones are in the past, which means: not going to happen. Thanks for the recap, though.

The best option is to remain at ten until the Pac12 GOR's expires a year before ours, and then pick off the two Arizona schools. The second best is some sort of alliance with the ACC. But that league is now better in football at the top, so not sure that one has legs. The third and last option is to expand now with UH and (fill in the blank). I expect the league to get some more dough from the TV partners in the short term, and remain as is for another decade.

That would be the worst thing to do. If you add 4 more schools, then you have more schools that are now members of a P5 conference that you will compete against if it all blows up. You only expand if there is a GoR extension. If there is no GoR extension, you vote no. And you get KSU, Baylor and TCU to vote the same way.

If they leave I say roll the dice and let it dissolve. Odds are we end up in better or equal to what would be left.

Even if those odds are 90% that ISU lands on their feet, I still don't know that the ISU AD wants to take that risk. If you're one of those teams that gets left out, it is costly to your program and ultimately to the state that would be on the hook to back your financial commitments that you may not be able to uphold anymore (coaches contracts, stadium binds, ect).

Where is all of the uncertainty within the conference coming from? Is it truly from only OU and UT? I'm curious at getting to the root of the problem. If it is only those two institutions, is it only the Presidents? Is it their ego? I mean seriously, do they want change to help their legacy? I ask this because I know quite a few people in both Oklahoma and Texas and they don't want change. They don't know anyone that wants to leave the Big 12.

I scrolled a few message boards and found some that want to leave the dumpster fire of the Big 12. I find it funny because it's their leadership causing the turmoil. It's like complaining a fire is too hot while holding lighter fluid and logs.

So many people talk about money. Screw the egos of trying to compete with the SEC and Big 10 financially. It just won't happen.

At that point you aren't in a P5 now P4 conference anyway.

If OU and UT leave and take 2 friends

Best of the Rest Conference

West
TCU
Baylor
BYU
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State

East
Cincy
West Virginia
UConn
Houston
Memphis
East Carolina

There are worse things in the world. We'd get to keep some historic rivals and might actually win some games. This is essentially the Big East plus Big 12. We can make that conference work IF we have too

There are better things too - like membership in another P5 conference. I'd stay up past midnight on Saturdays to watch Pac-16 games.
