When Gaines arrived at the table, Dr. Henry Heimlich, a 96-year-old resident of the Deupree House who invented the famous technique for clearing a blocked airway, was standing behind the woman, ready to perform it.

Typically, a staff member would do it. “But,â€￾ Gaines said, pausing, “it is Dr. Heimlich.â€￾
Heimlich, who swims and exercises regularly, was able to dislodge a piece of hamburger that had become stuck in 87-year-old Patty Ris’s airway.

That is just friggin fantastic. I picture him waiting around patiently for this to happen, and every year that goes by getting more and more depressed that it hadn't happen yet. Then, finally!!

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's the two electric pads you put on someone's chest and shock them repeatedly if the can't breathe.

Not sure. Is it anything like The Hindlick Maneuver? I saw the movie in college. Quality acting. Not much of a plot, though.

Hope he makes it to November for UNI's home basketball opener. They hope to set a Guinness record for largest demonstration of Heimlich maneuver to exorcise the demon that ended their season in the tourney.
