SOURCE: Jameel McKay's knee is structurally sound

I'll get blasted for this, but I think we should sit most of the team for A&M. Can't risk injury in a game that doesn't hurt to lose and doesn't gain much to win.
You are considered blasted. A win at aTm may mean more than in conference which are still low in hopes of sharing. I believe we are now more about the NCAAs at this point. With the UN I loss, an aTm win would greatly help.

So you want us to lay down for a game that would help tremendously for RPI, tourney seeding, rankings, confidence level ETC ETC. Carry on you're right nothing to gain.

Exactly. Best way to lose your team is to sit them for nonsense reasons. These guys want to compete and win, thats why they play.

Not sure it's worth moving up 2 spots in RPI, half to one seed up in seeding, confidence level when the risks are injury, tiredness, not enough practice for bench, etc. I don't know what to think. Coaches are certainly complaining about this tournament.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Jameel McKay's knee has no structural damage. This comes after McKay's trip to the doctor on Tuesday afternoon.

He's considered to be day to day at this point.

Thanks for the update CW and for staying on this story.

Big news for Jammel and for the team going forward. Reasurring he won't hurt himself more by playing. Still he needs to get right moving forward, and if that means missing time or limiting minutes so be it.

I am not a "depth stress fan" as it pertains to our current rotation but, losing another player due to injury for an extended time could change my outlook on the season.

Man, I'm glad the headline didn't cut off at "is" or I would have had a panic attack waiting for the page to open! Great news for him and Iowa State

Why not just sit the whole team for the entire non-conference season then?

Well news of no structural damage may be all he needs mentally, knowing his future isn't in doubt is probably a big weight off his shoulders.

Absolutely. That has to be a relief for Jameel, and I'm not sure why people don't understand how worrisome that could be for a young man whose future depends on the health of his body.

It is excruciating for ISU to have to play on the road for a non conf right in the heart of Big12 season. I hope this falls on its face and its moved back to December next year.

How is it any different than playing a conference game on the road? It's not any farther than most conference games. Unless you win the conference, non-conference games are just as important as conference games.

He just needs to buy in. Once he realizes that the team's interest is the same as his interest he'll be fine. If he tries to fight it both sides lose.

I don't like this narritive, that pain is just in his head and due to him not being happy with his current role.

No structual damage means no injury but he still is hurt. He was liming signicantly in the OU game after coming down ackwardly. It could be a verity or issues ranging from irritation to tendonitis or a deep bruise.

If JM needs to rest to get it right and be close to 100% do it. Mentally though it should take the worry about making things worse once he does feel more normal. Medical staff is on it and should have the right course of action moving forward.

Ya kidding? These are college kids with a motor, not old NBA guys.

If we lose this game it is 100% OK but this is a HUGE opportunity. Win this game and you most likely went on the road and beat the SEC champ. This type of game is the difference between a 2 and 3 seed. If you have someone not 100% you rest them but you have to play to win.

Breaking New: A source close to me tells me......

This comment seems a bit to Hines-ish..... JK....

A win over West Virginia advances our goals more, and while a win at A&M may be slightly more impressive on the resume, you have to consider all the games between now and then. I would rather sit him until Tuesday (assuming that his injury will be helped by the extra rest).

The not much to lose thing doesn't really apply when playing against Coppin State.

But you aren't worried about losing the opportunity to play a very good, UNFAMILIAR opponent that will arguably do more to prepare the team for the NCAA tournament than any conference game we play in? I guess nothing prepares a team for the NCCA tournament better than playing Coppin State.

So we should just rest everyone against every good team we play since the loss doesn't matter and only try to beat bad teams? Dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Goals? Maybe 1 single goal of winning the Big 12 regular season, that is it. Otherwise, a win at A&M is just as good as a win @ West Virginia.

College kids happen to get tired too. And sometimes rest can be good for them too. I can understand other arguments in favor of doing everything we can to win this game, but to suggest that college kids can't benefit from rest?

Glad to hear the news about Jameel. I trust the training staff and Jameel to make the right call on resting/playing against A&M. Hope the team views this like a tourney game. Last chance to play a team that we aren't used to before the dance.
