Cooke Suspended Today

Only half true.

Take this FWIW, a friend who was talking to a guy who 'writes for Iowa State' said Cooke was about 5 minutes late to practice. Prohm threatened to sit him for the first half tonight, & Cooke mouthed off to him.

Not sure if it's legitimate or not, just what I heard.

I remember that. story was Fred was late as well. Ive been thinking about that team lately actually because Orr had just retired the previous year and the general line of thought was that he left Floyd a core of returning upperclassmen who were ready to compete for the upper tier of the conference. That team finished the Big 8 conference season at 6-8. The following season Floyd got "his" guys to run "his" system and defensive empasis. Willoughby, Pratt, Cato, Bankhead and company went 9-5 in conference.
And played completely different than what we did under Orr. Where do we find a Cato and Pratt? Let's hope next year we see a similar "bump" without it being due to this year being as rough.

FYI I posted that one handed while holding my 4 day old premie in my other hand, so sorry if autocorrect didn't like a couple words, but it doesn't seem to mind ***.

Don't understand why you are attacking the team. Who is emtionally fragile? Niang? Morris? Thomas? Long? I agree Nader and McKay have had their moments in the past but let's pump the brakes a bit. I can assure you pretty much every single team in America has players that have had their own respective issues at some point. These are 18-22 year olds.

Sometimes I see Cooke on the court trying to act the role of Naz during breaks. I like that spirit. However, he might want to take a few lessons from Naz during his first year playing. He didn't have much of a role. His court leadership came as the result of on-court performance and years of showing that he was going to work harder than anyone to find his way to contribute. Remember Naz talking about working on 3s like crazy during the summer after McGee left because he knew we would need someone to fill that role. Cooke has a ton of talent and could do something similar, but it may happen during the off-season (next year, since he lost this year's to the hip surgery). I hope he is having some good talks with Naz and paying close attention to Naz's example over a period of years. If so, I see a very bright future for Hallice and look forward to celebrating it with him.

Are you sure about that? Obviously, I look forward to him improving and contributing, just don't think I'd go that far.

McKay is that you?

I hope so too. Just wanted to show that we have a history with this sort of change in emphasis. Orr's teams were defensively challenged and Floyd, as we know, emphasized that side of the ball. Michalik, Beechum, and Meyer weren't exactly killing it on that end to say the least. It took Floyd type of players in order to play his way. Here's hoping CSP works his magic the same way next year.

I don't think the difference between Hoiberg and Prohm is anywhere near the difference between Orr and Floyd. In some ways this is good, in others not so good. Man, Floyd was a heck of a coach, albeit one that never planned at being anywhere long.

I think Prohm pretty much admitted today that he wasn't coaching as much of his style as he normally would with this team. I don't necessarily think that was a horrible idea, but good for him for making the adjustment.

Say Morris or Niang show up late one day. You think he'll bench them too?

Niang, Morris, Thomas, etc. have already been there for an hour.

P.S. Don't most of these guys live really close to the practice facility?

Seriously guys, let's stop the stupid speculation. Cook was late to a practice and the new rule is that means an automatic game suspension. A little shock to the system is a good thing and Prohm is doing the very little he can to try and reel in a bunch of previously coddled pre madonnas..

LOL this is a joke, right?

No question about that. Floyd was the defensive yin to Orr's offensive yang. It was downright difficult for many in the fanbase to adjust to such a different game. CSP is much closer to Fred's style on the court and it sounds like in his relationship building with players for the most part. The difference it seems is that Prohm enjoys his role as mentor to young adults and not treating them like they are NBA players. I for one am glad that he's holding players accountable.

Better now than never. Could be some rough times in the next few weeks as guys adjust, but it may payoff in March.

Prohm talks briefly about the situation in the post-game presser linked in Rob Gray's article.
