UNI Was Just Better......Tonight

Lol are you kidding me? We probably win 8 not less then 7 if we play ten times.

I think 5/5 is pretty accurate. Late in the game UNI's fundamentals came through, and it would be that way every time they played. They know how to play true possession basketball instead of forcing things. Niang's last little drive was a good example. UNI's dude just play defense, and there was no reason to force the ball with 15 seconds left.

Yes they're disciplined, but we also wouldn't be down or close some of those games. I would think we win 8 or 9 times out of 10. UNI shot ridiculous from 3, and they won't do that again.

Part of the reason UNI shot so well is that we gave them wide open shots that were in rhythm..

Good shooters are going to knock down shots at a high percentage if you let them take wide open looks and get into a groove.

Losses happen...we weren't going to go undefeated, and UNI isn't a bad team at all...the bigger issue is that this is the 5th consecutive game we've played wildly mediocre basketball...it just happens to be the first time it's came back to bite us in the loss column.

Some of them were wide open. Most of them were not. 5-6 of them were also beyond the NBA 3 point line. When Washpun makes a step back NBA 3 at the end of the shot clock, there's not a whole lot you can do defensively. We also missed a lot of wide open 3's ourselves. We make one that we normally make or they miss one of theirs and we win the game. We outplayed them in every area except 3 point shooting, it happens.

Most of their 3's were great looks that they were able to step into without being heavily contested..rewatch if you want to, but it's just as frustrating the 2nd time around.
I have gotten through the first half now. The few that they had were because of great movement from UNI, not because of poor defense. Two of their good looks were from decent NBA range. I'll come back when done with the second half, but I don't see any way you can pin this on the defensive effort.

Tell that to Coach Prohm.

No. I'm not kidding. They've beaten us 75% of the time over the last decade and it is extremely close to 100% with our only 2 victories being OT wins.

If anything, I'm probably being generous to us saying we'd split.

They had a once a year type shooting performance and we couldn't throw it in the ocean yet we were a Niang slip away from winning. I would love to know what our FG percentage was outside of 5 ft because it had to be around 15%-20%. Given what transpired in the game I'm fine with this loss. Just one of those nights.

Exactly. The way I look at it UNI just had to miss one of those 3 or 4 desperation 3s from 27 feet or ISU had to make one of the 7 or 8 wide open 3s that good shooters missed for the Clones to win. Some days you make a lot of shots, some nights you don't. That kind of shooting by UNI would have beaten a lot of teams. I don't even want to talk about defense when average shooters are making multiple NBA range 3 pointers. Yes, the defense could be better, but the UNI guard was really good a penetrating and was on fire too, so you have to let something go. Most of the ISU offense is built on getting a rebound and beating the other team down the court. Hard to do that when everything the other team throws up there goes in.

I haven't listened to what he said postgame so I don't know what you are talking about. Any coach worth anything is going to want to not get beat on defense at anytime, but if you are honest with yourself that is just great offense.

On another note, I just got to the 17:50 mark where Jesperson hits a 27 ft shot with like 5 seconds left on the shot clock and Burton still gets a hand in his face for the most part.

It was a combination of good offense/bad defense...Defense was better in the 2nd half than the first...we played with a better sense of urgency.

Prohm wasn't happy with D in 1st half.

You're probably right. Just last night...and that time they beat the #1 team in the nation. How many other schools have multiple top ten wins right now?
UNI is clearly the best team in all the land. Perhaps they are the greatest team ever since I'm sure they will shoot 60% (or better) from the 3 point line for the entire season...and perhaps the next decade. And of course, an early season win over UNC is the harbinger of a.national championship. All should bow down now and a base.themselves at the feet of the purple kitties.

Just finished. I think part of the problem is what mindset we are talking about. From a coach looking at it yes our defense wasn't very good because we got beat, but from an outside look that is just great offense.

Your anger is causing you to have terrible punctuation.

Whether to fault the 3 pt defense or say there's not much more we could have done defensively on the 3 is debatable.

What's not is that we got destroyed on the high ball screen/pick and roll. Not sure if the problem was the on ball defender or the screener defender.

Yeah, but that wasn't what people were complaining about. I think that was the defensive game plan though. They seemed like they wanted to double Washpun.

UNI played great and when you have a guy like Washpun at 6'1 who is slicing and dicing and attacking the middle and feeding guys (in rhythm) your going to win. We had no answer to him. They played at a high level. They proved that against N.C. as well. Credit to Coach Jacobson.
