Coaching Search Rumors - Consolidated Thread

Money always influences but it sounds like he's the type of guy that would like to see how his strategies would work on the big stage. But he's also mindful of his family and how they would acclimate to the new environment.

Stitt would leave for Isu in a heart beat. Let's not kid ourselves. He strikes me as a guy who would welcome the challenge.

Stitt runs a spread like offense, isn't that what everyone wanted to get rid of? I'm not against Stitt but I want to see more expience than 1 year at Montana. I want to see if he can recruit first. I know he is a genius on offense but I'd rather go with someone like Willie Fritz.

The more I reflect on this, the more I think we should hire a coach with current HC experience. Calhoun, Niumatalolo, and long shot Fuente fit the criteria and warrant compensation package accordingly. Talks of Fritz and Leipold are cost savings measures in my opinion. Although Fritz seems to have solid recruiting connections in TX.

I don't know why everyone is so high on Leipold, I'll be disappointed if we get him. Yes he won a lot in D3 but he only had 5 wins with a team that had 8 last year. I just don't think he is a super splash hire. I still think Fritz would be the best choice. I also think Leipold is a defensive kind a guy, don't we want an offensie minded coach?

Listen to his acceptance speech given less than a year ago. Then if you think that he would leave Missoula after less than a year, your read on him is different than mine.

I've listened to it whole and in part several times. Just like hearing him talk football.

But, that was then, this is now.

We'll see, maybe . . . depending on whether an offer comes from ISU or another P5 school. This year, with so many openings, is a great time for Stitt to jump to FBS.

Neither you or I or anyone else but Stitt can know his unstated thinking, what's running through his mind. Unless you have inside information?

. . . A lot of play callers are trying to fool the defense, but in the article it says that Stitt uses motion to confuse the D and also to identify what they are doing. That is just plain smart. You get the Defense moving and you force them to show their hand, or the motions pulls them out of formation.

I like it, I like it a lot.

In the video, Stitt states that his teams score OK in the first quarter, but the second and third quarters (did he say fourth, too? Don't recall.) is where his teams' scoring explodes. He ADJUSTS! By the football gods, witnessing how poorly our 2015 team scores in the second half, we desperately need a football mind that understands not only what the defense is doing but can also exploit that understanding to the maximum.

It is written in several stories that Stitt runs a finesse spread. After reading several Stitt articles, though, it seems to me that Stitt runs a Stitt offense. As he said at one point in the video, he wants a tough-as-nails offensive line because, if the defense splits wide and leaves five in the box, he'll employ zone blocking and run all day long. He says he has 1,000-yard runners. . . . He'll do whatever is required. That's my take, anyway.

Who knows who is right for Iowa State (other than JP and Leath, hopefully)? Really, we fans cannot know, because we do not know what intensive research and interviews will reveal about any one coach. As a front-line peon fan, I'll support whomever we land, but, by the gods, how I'd like to see what Stitt could do with the 2016 Cyclones.

I'll guess that genius is a draw of its own. Add in the Big 12, well, then. . . . Stitt had what? 15 years as the head coach at CSM? It's not like he's run a program just one year; he's been in charge 16 seasons or thereabouts.

However, Fritz is intriguing, I like the cut of his jib, too. Also, Brock Spack at Illinois State has a mighty fine record.

I just want someone with the offensive mind to do damage in the Big 12, a coach who can analyze what's happening play-to-play and respond, chess-like, with a devastating counter-attack. A General Patton of the coaching world rather than a General Grant. Grant marshaled overwhelming power to defeat his foes; we can't do that in the Big 12. We need a strategist and fierce tactician (I used Patton as an illustration because I refuse to use figures such as Lee or Jackson or Bedford Forrest. Confederates. Evil men. Bah.)

No love for Matt Wells, Utah State? They play BYU at home at 2:30 PM Saturday on CBSSN.

Discuss.

I think he's an interesting possibility, too. I do want to ask others here, though, wasn't Luke Wells pushed out here when he was coaching wide receivers? From the wording announcing his departure, in context, I thought it was not LW's decision to leave. My impression easily could be wrong. Anyone know?

Regardless, Luke's situation here hopefully won't impact Matt Wells' interest in the ISU job. If he brings Luke with him, won't bother me one iota. Hope Luke is open to the possibility.

Just watched part of the Bob Stitt video again. It struck me that what he said in his inaugural Griz press conference is the same thing he would say in Ames. That is, Iowa State University is U. of Montana writ large. Missoula, many say, is a fine community in which to live. Ames offers a great family environment with outstanding schools, a great place in which to raise a family. JP (and many others) will attest to that with utmost sincerity.

Of course, this doesn't apply only to Stitt. Whomever we land likely will find Ames to be a warm embrace of family in many ways.

(Boy, if ISU doesn't hire Stitt, it's gonna take me awhile to adjust to the new guy. . . .)

this is Iowa, I think any coach that comes here will worry the least about family fitting in. Ames has to be one of the best towns in the nation that a p5 school is in to raise your family.

Fritz would be a homerun hire, imo. Proven winner, coaches a ball control, run oriented offense that is uncommon for the b12...teams will struggle against the power run as they aren't built to stop power and it's something other teams in the conference rarely practice against.

Les Miles will remain in the SEC. South Carloina and Mizzou will make a huge run at him. I would love it, but that only happens at bizarro ISU.

Leath, Pollard and the search firm did a good job with the MBB search. That is a more desirable job and there were a lot of guys interested, no one that absolutely blew you away, but I think that they made a good decision based on who they interviewed.

The search firm can put out feelers, and use their network to see who is interested. I would really like to see someone with Rhoads enthusiasm, but a guy who has more fun while doing it. Rhoads and CO. are old school. So maybe a young guy like Stitt or Frost that could come in and have fun with it would be great.

I love the attitude that Rhoads and Co. brought in, but he seemed a bit "tough love" which has its time and place, but should be metered out in doses. Give me someone more creative.

Rhoads was "tough love"? Based on what?

Sorry dude. From where, at the point of the game we are at, would you expect tangible rumors to come? The old coach is still here through Saturday, and the search firm is unlikely to run names past CF for us to properly vet. Don't come back for at least another week if hard info is what you're after, and actually, probably not even then, as we are unlikely to find out until the morning of the announcement if past is prologue.

I don't think it's unreasonable to come to a thread titled 'Coaching Search Rumors' & expect some actual rumors... Maybe they should rename this one 'Who would you choose' & make a different thread for rumors.

I'm starting to wonder if you guys know what rumor means.
