Herman seems like a reach for a Texas program that swung and missed on their last hire.

Absolutely. I would not be surprised if Bevo was looking around to replace Coach Strong, but if they dump him, it ain't gonna be to hire the Houston Coach. I could see them picking up a fire sale Les Miles and doing it though.
I agree. Hoke would be an intriguing hire to say the least. To be offered the coaching job at Michigan you have to have had a bunch of success and he certainly did. He failed at Michigan. There's no doubt about that. If he were named the head coach at ISU he'd have to prove himself relatively quickly because many people would have the opinion that if he can't win at Michigan there's no way he would win at Iowa State. He definitely recruited well at Michigan though, and aside from his time there he's been a very good coach.
In my opinion, he's a very likable guy too. Pollard said whomever he chooses needs to be a good fit for the program and I think Hoke's personality would win people over. It's not like he failed miserably at Michigan. He just couldn't get the team to play well enough to live up to their standards. It didn't help that he never really had a QB who fit the type of system he prefers to run.
I agree but it seems like people are equating Hoke to some kind of like inappropriate conduct or being in trouble or having troubled programs? Am I missing something?
CW and Jeremy both made mentions of Hoke. Jeremy also stated that there was some smoke to the Hoke name. Did he ever say what that was or maybe it was just his agent putting his name out there?
He did fail miserably at Michigan. Very miserably.
Hoke is a career 78-70 coach. He had 3 good seasons in his whole career compared to 8 awful seasons. He's dinosaur that still thinks football is played the same as it was in the 1980s. He'll hire OC that isn't innovative. He'll also constantly bungle game management. I'd rather have Rhoads back.

Hoke at Michigan was a bad fit, and it happens. Look at Rich Rodriguez and what he is doing at Arizona. If Hoke comes in he has a lot of name recognition and would be able to attract Coaches. If he can bring in top notch coordinators and coaches then I would be very happy.

Hmm I don't think he's ever been in trouble with the NCAA. RichRod was the one who broke the NCAA rule for practicing too much. That wasn't Hoke. Hoke turned around both the Ball State and San Diego State programs in a relatively short period of time before going back to Michigan where he was an assistant previously. Sounds to me like people want a head coach with experience. He has that in bunches.
There were some things that happened at Michigan. One very big thing. I'm actually surprised it never got more press. Look up Brendan Gibbons. How much of that was on Hoke? I don't know.
