I know we are still mid-season here but with all of the coaching changes happening, thought this was relevant:

UCF is a way, way better job than Iowa State.

We all love Iowa State but we have a highly inflated perception of ISU football. Not only are we one of the worst Power 5 jobs, there are several non-Power 5 jobs better than this one.

There have been calls for Fuente from Memphis. Let's drop those hopes because 1) he already makes $1.5 mil and 2) he is in line for a much better job. Mike Leach? Come on, the guy makes $2.6 mil at Washington State. Some national people even PJ Fleck isn't attainable for Iowa State.

What would people think about this?

Like many, I wouldn’t be surprised if Iowa State opens up this season. Might be an interesting landing spot for Brady Hoke or Al Golden.

I don't think most of us have a highly inflated perception of ISU football. I think most of understand how the ISU football job is perceived nationally. There are the few standout voices who think we should be able to do anything, but they are just a loud tiny minority.

The only way out is to think big. Take a shot. It cant get worse.

Sounds like Greg Schiano might be in the lead for the Miami job currently.

Brady Hoke couldn't win at Michigan, that would be a horrendous hire for ISU.

Still think Troy Calhoun would be a great/attainable hire in Ames.

If Jamie is going to make a splash (or is in the process of making a splash) he is putting out feelers to agents now that he is willing to open up the pocketbook and spend $3+mil on a coach. Arkansas knew they were in a tough spot after Petrino, and sent the same type of feelers to agents and wound up with Bielema.

I refuse to see how UCF is a "way, way better" job than Iowa State. Typical media overreaction to something they didn't get the full details on and most likely never will (Mangino firing).

Pay up Pollard. Time to make a real hire.

Agree with paying as much as it takes to hire a proven coach but let's be realistic. Until the fan base pays up by increasing the amount donated to the National Cyclone Club through higher donations and members we will continue to struggle to hire the home run head coach everyone thinks we should.

Not a comforting thought.

I've been a fan of ISU football since the early 90s. I definitely do not have an inflated view of ISU football.

1. Who the **** is Bryan Fischer?

2. I looked up who the **** Bryan Fischer is and I've read all I need to know. His Twitter Bio:
National college football columnist at Bleacher Report. Formerly of NFL Media, Pac-12 Networks, CBS Sports, Yahoo! Sports & others.

I don't care as much about a name, I care about a good fit.

The guy used to be at CBS Sports and has a pretty good pulse on college football. And is level headed. Certainly only one guy's opinion but there are similar sentiments from other national college football reporters. He just happened to be talking about Iowa State last night in a Q&A.

Reality is Iowa state plays much tougher competition. It's easier to win at most other places not in 10 team round robin.

If ISU had their schedule, ISU would be hands down the better job. If ISU had a lot of teams schedules the season would be going differently.

Whom you play makes a difference, a huge difference.

I don't see a lot of inflated perceptions on this board. Not sure where that comment comes from.
