Where? Genuinely curious. I am more confident than usual that St. Louis will pay him, but given their relative stinginess and OF depth he could walk.
I've seen this talk, too, but its 99% fan blogs...I think I've only seen one "legit" site mention it, and even that was more of an opinion/editorial piece instead of writing.
Basically the argument is that the Cubs need (which they do) a defensive presence in the outfield that also has pop in his bat.
The problem is...
1. The Cubs need pitching much more than bats right now.
2. Heyward will likely demand 8-10 years. 6 of Cubs top 10 prospects are outfielders. So, it would be kind of stupid to sign an outfielder long term.
3. FO likely won't want three big *** contracts next year. Likely add a third bag *** contract after next year.
I think the Cubs likely get Alex Gordon in the outfield and then drop $20-30 million on pitching.
The year after they will have another $30 million to spend.
How much do you think they would be getting Gordon for? He's not in the Heyward range but he's going to be pushing a $100M contract. I don't see anyway the Cubs go after him.
The only reason I have an ounce of hope is that if we can somehow win tomorrow with Hammel, we have Lester in a game 5 at home and then Jake. Somehow get it to game 7 and then who knows. I give this about a .2 percent chance with how bad we have been this series, but it's all I got.

The ******* thing about sports...the Cubs have had an absolutely remarkable season. They have completely surpassed my expectations and have been a blast to watch all season long, and now here I am feeling worse than I've felt all year after falling behind 0-3...
Assuming we don't pull a miracle and win the next 4, after the season ends and people have time to reflect, I'm sure I'll feel great about the year the Cubs had, but tonight was incredibly frustrating and demoralizing!

Don't think he'll be quite in that range but you bring up a good point.
I think it's important the Cubs sign a pitcher first just to see how much money they have.
Really wouldn't hate having Zobrist on this team, though I'm glad we didn't trade for him.
I like Zobrist as a player, I don't know if I'll like him so much for what he costs and at his age. The Cubs already have a lot of flexibility with their lineup too, especially if they don't trade Baez or Castro. It will definitely be an interesting offseason. The Cubs have a bunch of good young pieces, just a matter of seeing how they all fit together.
I know it has been a great season, a lot of fun, and the future is bright; but dammit I hate that Cubs fan feeling watching that game last night. I hate that damn feeling.
well it depends on whether the front office thinks Castro's first half season this year was a fluke or if he's more like the hitter he shown in 2014 (I don't think anyone thinks he's the hitter he was in September).
It might be time to trade Soler while he has value, shift Bryant out to right and stick Baez at third. If soler can't hit when it's cold, he's of no use to the Cubs. It's not usually going to be above 70 degrees in October.
Last night was the first game this series where the Cubs flat beat themselves. Doubt the Cubs win even if they play perfect defense because they have yet to show they can adjust to the strike zone, but last night was the first game this postseason where I felt the Cubs beat themselves.
I really think Soler is going to be an All-Star caliber OF in the future, but I'm not against trading him in the right deal, especially if that involves someone like Carlos Carrasco or Chris Archer. If they move Bryant to OF that also takes some defensive burden off of whoever takes over in center. Playing between Soler and Schwarber requires an elite defender in CF.
Soler bat is great, and he had a good power hit last night, but he is such a liability on defense. I don't recall Schwarber being much of a liability in left field so far, but he just seems so out of place there. What do you do with him? The outfield needs some work.
Schwarber's fine in a corner outfield spot. He's not going to be chasing down a lot of balls in the gap but if he gets to it, he'll catch it.
Soler has the speed but it's like he's never played the outfield before sometimes. I'm not sure that gets much better.
The Cubs problem in these playoffs is our two best players are having awful postseasons and our two best pitchers have one win between them (not counting play-in game) and that win was a gift thanks to the offense happening to have an amazing night.
Other than getting my hopes crushed, I wish the Cubs' pitching, hitting, and fielding decided to show up for the NLCS and make it more of a series for the Mets.
