Heh...last night we were watching this nat geo alaska show about some guys who build log rafts and float down the river selling firewood. One guy said he was 66 and his son was 18. Did the math and realized that I'd have to have a newborn 9 years from now to make the same numbers (and I feel old for a guy with a 5 and 3 YO already). I was all nopenopenope right outta that one. Granted, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion anyway, but :no:

Assuming my youngest passes every year I will turn 59 right after he graduates from high school. Of course I will follow that up with my first grandkid graduating 3 years later.

I wish I had worked harder at math in high school. If you want to be an engineer type (among many other things), it's not a waste of time.

My one required math class for college was actually easier than my last math class in high school. I knew I was off to good start in college when the professor said we were only going to use linear equations.

I saw that too! Saw some comments about how people with that many kids more than likely self-select so they are likely to be more happy with that. You generally don't accidentally have 4 kids, which means it's a lifestyle you desire and wanted.

We were done with three. ;)

Hoiball92, pay attention. Seriously. I wish I did more of that in High School. I had the same mentality about "**** Algebra 2" like you do. I actually failed it once, partially because I didn't care and partially because of personal issues of my dad having cancer, but colleges don't really care. I missed out on a healthy scholarship that would've basically cut my tuition at ISU in half. All I needed was a 0.01 higher GPA. 0.01! That is literally just one class with a higher grade.

Do you know how many times I look back at high school classes and think if I would've tried just a tad harder, it would've made my life much easier? Too many to count.

Now I have roughly $50k in student loans. I am very fortunate to have a nice paying job (and savings to actually pay it off in full but I am doing other things with it) where I can pay that off pretty easily but not everyone gets that opportunity. I could've had $25k in loans and paid it off even sooner if I would've just tried a little bit more in high school.

$50k > $25k. That's math you can understand.

ha, I think my previous boss was as well. Then a surprise fourth.

DH had a similar thing happen with a scholarship and Calc 3 in college. Didn't completely lose the scholarship but it paid more for a 3.75 vs. 3.5 GPA for example and he dropped a level.

Your high school GPA doesn't mean **** after you are in college, but it means a lot when you are trying to get in and get aid.

Man, i can second this whole thing. I had great test scores (was like a 33 or 34 on the ACT and was a national merit scholarship semifinalist) and always did pretty well on tests in my classes, but i was pretty lax on focusing on homework and that brought my grades down enough that kept me from getting a full ride to ISU or other places.

Only reason I passed high school was I was a good test taker. I hated homework with a passion and it bit me in the *** for tons of scholarships at almost every university I applied. There were a few that accepted my "appeal" because of my ACT score but ISU did not and I fell in love with ISU too much to care about the money.

If I get this first shift job, I'm going to have to break this "eat lunch, take a nap" everyday pattern. Of course, I'll be getting more sleep, as well, so that'll help.

So in week 3 of the job hunt, so far I've had 2 calls with a recruiter, 1 rejection, and a whole lot of silence. I'm starting to get a little nervous on the time frame with some of these.

see that the McCaughey septuplets are now almost done with high school. One of the things offered when they were born was free tuition to any state of Iowa university. Wonder if any will end up at ISU.

Algebra 2 is a junior class right? I took it as a sophomore. You need help, and you should get it. Algebra 2 is a precursor to pre-calc/calculus. My sister is struggling with calc right now because her Algebra 1 and 2 teachers didn't cover any of the basics so I pretty much had to teach her myself.
