They make it so easy...

He wanted to win with his guy, "someone you want your daughter to marry". Brad Banks should have started over Kyle Mccann, Stanzi should have started over JC, and Beathard over Rudock. KF can't evaluate QB's and that's nothing new.

Twins, you keep saying you watched them last year. Was the offense ever more interesting than what they showed against us? Cause that would be coma-inducing, regardless of the quarterback. And does Beathard's promotion change the boring play-calling any?

It was pretty vanilla last year all season long. Beathard is Steele Jantz 2.0 so I'm guessing they will run their offense around trying to limit his turnovers

Rudock looked like an all B1G QB against Wisconsin.

I agree with most of what you said though, Beathard might give them a better shot to win this year with what they have. I do think a lot of that is just blind faith though because Beathard was not impressive last year in games and obviously didn't win the battle over during the season because of his practice performances

He looked all B1G in the second half, which is what I said. First half? Barf town

As crazy as the Steele train was, seems like he at least usually pulled it out against UNI and the Hawks. Or maybe my old brain is just feeling nostalgic.

I'm shocked at how long this discussion about Iowa QBs and their offense has gone with hardly any mentions of Greg Davis. I think he's a bigger factor than anything else that's been discussed.

Yes - the back-up QB is always the better player & the fan-favorite every time

Last time I set foot in Kinick (for a non ISU-Iowa game) was when McCann was booed walking off the field after he was pummeled something fierce. It was disgusting.

He was 20-30 for 311 yards, 2 TD passes through the air and 1 on the ground plus 0 turnovers.

????? yes, with most, if not all, coming IN THE SECOND HALF (like I said twice). First half, he led the O to a grand total of 3 pts.

Give me a QB that can put up 300 yds and 3 TD's against the B1G West champ in the second half any day of the week

The same one who threw for 146 yds 0 TDs and 1 pick against the 119th rated passing D in the nation.

What was Purdue's pass defense ranked when Beathard was completing 45% of his passes and threw a pick 6?

QB Rating
Rudock vs ISU - 109.4
Beathard vs Purdue - 105.1

Purdue's pass D was ranked over 60 spots higher than ISU's. And it was on the road. And we won the game. CJB threw for 100 more yards, more completions, more TDs. You've talked about the % but anyone who watched the game saw the 7 clear drops, which the commentators were talking about, including one by Hillyard in the end zone that hit him between the numbers. I don't remember a string of WR drops against ISU.

If you're seriously trying to say JR was better against ISU than CJB was against Purdue... wow.

Beathard threw 13 more times against Purdue than Rudock did against Iowa State, so yes, Rudock had a higher QB rating for a reason. I don't remember a time where Rudock threw 20 incompletions in one game

All this arguing, usually when there is a quarterback controversy, as there apparently was at Iowa last year, people are just quibbling over who is worse between two not very good quarterbacks.

And you're putting all of those incompletions on CJB, which makes no sense. Here's part of 247Sport's recap of the game, naming drops as one of the key negatives for Iowa:

Drops- Any way you slice it, Iowa’s receivers were by in large disappointing against Purdue. With more drops than I care to remember, the receiving corps did the opposite of help out their inexperienced quarterback. Kevonte Martin-Manley deserves credit for bouncing back after his drop (it would’ve been a tough catch, but one he normally reels in) and making some outstanding plays. The back shoulder touchdown reception was beautifully done by the Hawkeyes’ senior leader.

Of course every QB deals with drops, but rarely as extreme as what CJB dealt with that day.

Let me find the link of Powell catching a perfectly throwing TD pass from Rudock only to hand it to the other team for an undeserving INT. Way worse than anything Beathard dealt with from his WR

That was a tough break. Luckily CJ was able to take over in the 2nd half, dig us out of the hole and get us the win.

The thing is I think Beathard has some natural talent. I just think it's pretty crazy to say he's so much better than Rudock when Beathard played pretty poorly when he got his chances last season. I hope Beathard is good enough to get Iowa 6 wins this year so KF keeps his job but I honestly would rather face Beathard than Rudock this year as an ISU fan. Our defense is going to have to force turnovers to win games
