I had a facebook friend post a link to a survey to see how many of the "Ultimate USA Wonders" you have visited, which got me thinking, what would a list of the "Ultimate Iowa Wonders" look like. Here is my list (I'm probably going to forget a lot, so please add your own).
In no specific order...

The Iowa State Fair (it was actually on the list of Ultimate USA Wonders)
Tail-gating at Jack Trice
The Des Moines Art Center (if you haven't been , shame on you, it's a wonderful collection)
Dubuque River walk
Taking a river boat on either the Missouri or the Mississippi
Zip lining at the YMCA Union Park Camp
Lake Okoboji
The Salisbury House (it has a connection to Shakespeare!)

Again, please add your own, heck I might add more as I think of them!

- All of our wind farms. Third in US after Texas and California.
- Our state capitol. Gold leafed dome!
- Snake Alley, Burlington. Even San Fran doesn't have such a winding street.
- The Basilica in Dyersville. Pope-worthy.
- Lake Rathbun. Man-made, Baby.

Mines of Spain Recreation Area near Dubuque - my favorite hiking place in the state
High Trestle Trail bridge - worthy of the hype as the most iconic cycling spot
Iowa State Fair - not my thing but has to be included in any list like this
Lake Okoboji - beautiful natural lakes with so much to do
Upper Iowa River near Bluffton - canoeing doesn't get better in Iowa

Pikes Peak....near McGregor, Iowa; also named for (or by) Zebulon Pike. He came through Iowa before he went to Colorado. It's in a state park near the Effigy Mounds which I found very interesting.

Whiterock Conservancy - Coon Rapids: Agriculture, history (KRuschev visit), Ecology, Environmentalism, Outdoor Recreation all in one place with unique a unique landscape.

Mount Hosmer in Lansing - beautiful view of the Mississippi River valley of three states at once - Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

You could even group Mount Hosmer along with Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds National Monument as they're all pretty close to each other, particularly Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds. I grew up on the family farm equidistant from all three.
