Things to not go "Cheap" or "Generic"

Aside from a lot of other things already said, don't buy those cheap *** phone chargers you see at the gas station.
I needed a new one and picked up a $5 charger from 711 and it lasted a couple weeks and damn near broke my phone.

Power supplies for computers. Quality on generic or little known brands is frequently terrible and has the potential to take hundreds if not thousands dollars worth computer parts with it. A decent power supply isn't that much more expensive and won't take other parts with it if it dies.

I agree with Heinz and Cling Wrap. HyVee cereals are good, Fareway's not so much.

HyVee sold this when I was in college in the late 70's/early 80's. It should have been labeled WATER!

I agree with most of the mentioned items. Furniture is one that I would add to the list. Cheap stuff is poorly built and the good stuff lasts forever.

i have had good luck with cheap jeans and socks. I buy all starter socks from Walmart and haven't spent over $15 for a pair of jeans in a long time. I like the fit and look of the jeans and they last longer than the $125 jeans from the buckle I used to buy.

most of the good ones are taken already, but in the junk food department, Doritos and Oreos are so much better than the knock offs.

I'm a big fan of Grocery Store Brand in many categories, but it requires trial-and-error (and it depends on the store, too).

I've sworn off garbage bags and will spring for Glad. I posted in a similar thread a while back that I avoid generic Oreos and that I've long believed in-store potato chips are underrated.

My go-to store has excellent cottage cheese. I

I'm not picky about condiments and (usually) not hung-up about salad dressing. My store has 3 levels for a lot of things now: Brand names, franchise-economy option and "This One is Even Cheaper Yet!" 3rd category is typically not worth the risk-vs.-savings.

Screws. Pony up an extra dollar and get the torque screws instead of the phillips head screws. It will change your life.

Leather interior in your vehicle. The inside looks much sharper much longer and adds resale value to the vehicle.

Small motor equipment. Lawn mower, weed whip, tiller, etc. If you get the stuff sold from the john deere dealership and other reputable dealers the equipment with last you well over a decade and possibly 2 or 3.

Bed Mattress. Trust me. You use it every day.

I much prefer the store brand vanilla sandwich cookies over the Golden oreos. Haven't tried the chocolate ones yet though.
