No he is keeping quiet because he has always kept quiet about NBA rumors...

This sentiment is just denial. The noise/smoke is at another level right now. Fred's silence is costing us recruits that would help us *this season*. This is not the same as "every year".

Not if the Bullz can't lay down a piece of paper that he could actually sign he wouldn't.

Thibs has a lot of leverage here, not necessarily the Bullz as everyone thinks.

I should have said "If Fred knew he wanted to stay".

He may stay because something falls through or he is still on the fence but he would have commented by now if he knew he was staying.

I don't think Fred is the team player everyone thinks he is. Team players don't leverage your school for three consecutive years for big raises. Team players don't flirt with Minnesota. Team players don't hurt their recruiting abilities by not communicating to potential recruits. Team players don't stop communication with their bosses and leave everyone wondering what the hell is going on for several weeks.

I love Fred and hope he decides to stay for a long time. But he's in this for himself first and ISU a distant second. I think that much is obvious now. Not that there is anything wrong with that because every other coach does the same thing. But let's not pretend Fred will protect/think about ISU's best interests before his own.

While I somewhat agree with what you said, Fred is still the 7th ranked coach in the Big12 when it comes to compensation. While you say he is leveraging the school for 3 consecutive years for big raises, I think he has been deserving of those raises.

I see your dirty face
High behind your collar
What is done in vain
Truth is hard to swallow
So you pray to God
To justify the way you live a lie
Live a lie
Live a lie

And you take your time
And you do your crime
Well you made your bed
I'm in mine

Now the son's disgraced
He, who knew his father
When he cursed his name
Turned, and chased the dollar
But it broke his heart
So he stuck his middle finger
To the world
To the world
To the world

I noticed you used the plural. Who are these recruits? The only one that I know of that is in a holding pattern is Max Bielfeldt (woohoo!). Kyle Washington is the only top transfer that has us on his list at this point and his list is like 5000 schools.

If Fred was staying he would have commented by now. That much I know.
Wrong. I'm not saying he is staying, but there are so many things that could be going on behind the scenes that require or benefit Fred only if he is quiet. This could be inking a deal with the Bulls, but it could also include a raise for him, more money to his assistants, a bigger slice of the athletics dept budget for travel, recruiting, operations, etc. Publicly turning down the Bulls wouldn't help here.

It's a major decision. Anyone would take as much time as given to make a decision unless you are 100% sure either way.

While the silence hurts recruiting temporarily, if it helps lock up assistants and get the bball program more operating funds it is probably worth it.

I would love for Fred to come out and declare he is staying, but it is not to his advantage to do so regardless of his decision.

Pollard doesnt leve the tour if fred is staying. Fred knows it is important and any raise or assistants pay could wait until tomorrow.

Washington would choose ISU if Fred was staying, he was one of the transfers everyone was told to be patient about, we are still in the his top couple but might drop off once Fred leaves

Never thought I would say this about Coach Cal.....But.

THAT FOLKS, IS HOW IT IS DONE!!!!

The Pelicans job is open and Calipari's name was mentioned so he denied it.

The Bulls job isn't open and Hoiberg's name has been mentioned but he hasn't (and may never) comment until Thibs' fate has been decided.

Different situations.

The problem is his selfish jump to the NBA which could wait a year kills what could have been a great season next year with a top 5 team coming back. Without Fred we get dropped to a top 20 team at best.

I wouldn't be mad about that, just sayin'...

I know Fred will stay for the long term however on Friday he will be announcing a 1 year sabbatical to coach the bulls and try to fulfill his dream of an NBA championship an then return to Ames for 2016. Otz will be interim HQ. 2 week ban?

Well played, good sir. You have yourself a well earned...

Pollard could leave the tour for health reasons. He did not have very much energy at all during his Cedar Rapids stop.

Yes, Max is the guy I was thinking of specifically. But we are kidding ourselves if we think he is the only recruit out there considering ISU being negatively impacted. If I was a high-schooler I would have absolutely no confidence Fred would be here for 2016-17 and would be staying away from the uncertainty. If Fred stays silent for weeks and then by some miracle stays he would still be doing long-term damage to the program unless he also stated he intends to wait for a while before pursuing NBA.

Interesting quote from Kendall Gill that Fred Hoiberg might not have enough stature in the eyes of Bulls players to command respect......even if he was hired.

Knowing Cal he probably had it leaked he was interested in the job just to be able to say No I love UK just to make the fan base happy bc they are freaking out about losing out on a lot of top recruits since they assume all of them should be going to UK
