Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

I don't follow basketball nearly as much as I do football, but I still have great respect for Hoiberg and couldn't ask for a better person or leader for this university. He is Iowa State. That being said if he were to leave, so too does his legacy here and my love for him as a coach. I would view it as a huge letdown after only 5 years and never making a huge tournament run or NC. Him leaving now would leave a Cael Sanderson taste in my mouth.

You know it's not a good sign when the mods start rounding up rogue threads. They are all on stand-by alert.

Yep. Getting everyone in one room, then blowing it up. No one survives.

My God that is crazy money. Hoiberg is gonna get an offer that he literally won't be able to say no to even if he wanted to. We are talking about multigenerational financial security.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Because there is no pressure to win in the NBA?
Absolutely....as with any high level, high exposure job there is a lot of pressure. There is however no personal attachment to it as with his "dream job" in Ames, Iowa. And IMHO that just adds a little too much pressure AND emotion to a situation(job) that already has plenty.

Get a grip. Hoiberg has given us his best effort. And because of that someone is going to back up a truck of money to his house big enough that he couldn't say no even if he wanted to. Sanderson ran away from Brands. Hoiberg isn't running away from anything. I'll forever love him but be incredibly sad for the missed opportunity I believe ISU finally had.

Remember when When Calipari was the HC of the Cavs? And Izzo years before that? Oh wait, they never got the coach the media said they were getting.

Big difference between leaving for another school and leaving for the NBA.

I too would like to continue to root for Fred, but this season could have been what made up for all of the past seasons for Iowa State football and basketball and if he leaves he is messing that all up. It's just ironic that the one season Iowa State is suppose to be really good, a lifetime Cyclone messes with it.

Sanderson left because Pollard didn't want to pony up the money to support him, or the program. Lord Jesus, I hope that's not the case with Fred.

You've been spot on, but I'll add that the saddest part, is Fred is really turning down the chance to bring ISU it's only major sport National Championship that we'll ever see.

That was part of it. The other was he knew he had to get distance from Brands to beat him. He was seriously competitive and needed to be where it gave him the best chance to be the best.

Simply untrue. Cael was highest paid wrestling coach in country at ISU. Penn St is a recruiting gold mine (as results indicate).

We moved along a guy who is pretty much legendary in the sport to make sure Cael stuck around when he was an assistant. Cael couldn't have had more support at ISU
