Chieck Diallo rumors

No. It's not like Diallo is the ONLY player ISU is recruiting and spending time recruiting him is costing them other recruits. You are going to miss on the majority of players you recruit. To go back to your dating analogy. If the ONLY person you ask out is the hottest girl in school then you're probably going to spend your school year alone but if you ask out 30 girls, including the ten hottest ones, then odds are that eventually you are going to have a hot girlfriend unless there is something wrong with you. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with ISU that prevents them from being a landing spot for these elite kids. You don't quit after two say "no thank you".

This is easy to say when you are Kansas and a majority of the Top 30 are on your radar and have an interest because of the name on the jersey. When you are Iowa State, you have to get in on these guys VERY early and only a few are even learning more about Iowa State. Hopefully that will change but right now, KU recruiting Top 30 guys vs. ISU recruiting Top 30 guys is night and day different.

Meh....KU will be stacked on frontcourt with Diallo Bragg and Ellis. They will also likely land either Zimmerman and Thorne.

They are also returning a lot of players (besides Oubre Alexander) such as Graham, Selden, Svi, Greene, Traylor, Lucas, Mickleson, etc.

Anything less than another big 12 conference title and a final four run will be disappointing with a blue blood program that stacked and a coach as reputable as Selfish. It seems he tries to keep his players their wish is respectable at least as Alexander was essentially forced out.

Those guys espeically aren't anything incredible. Greene, Selden, and Graham are all very spotty. I wouldn't call that a "stacked" roster. Especially without seeing any of the incoming freshman play. Remember everyone last year thought Alexander and Oubre would be the 2nd coming of Wiggins and Embiid.

Word is Ellis may declare because of family financial concerns.
Also if they get Diallo they won't go after Thorne anymore and Zimmerman will stay out west.

I have no idea what you meant with your last sentence. Are you saying you think SELF forced Alexander out? I hope that's not what you meant because anyone that has followed it at all can see it was the actions of Cliff's parents and the NCAA's unwillingness to change their standard punishment for impermissible benefits that forced Cliff to go to the Draft.

duh when are they not, thats a good confidence level you have there big guy. Every year we know KU has way more overall talent but it doesnt matter with Fred around.

Ellis just got his information back from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee and will review it with his family. Self requests this info every year for all of his players with a remote chance of going to the NBA. http://www2.kusports.com/news/2015/apr/09/perry-ellis-has-info-make-pro-decision/?mens_basketball I have seen nothing about any family financial concerns and would assume that is nonsense thrown out there in the twitter world as a possible explanation as to why Ellis might go pro despite not being expected to be drafted even close to the first round. At least until I see a legit source.

Not self, but the NCAA.

Then yes, I agree with that. But 100% of the blame for Cliff's situation falls on his parents. They put him in this spot and he has to deal with that decision for the rest of his life. Hopefully he puts in the work to get on an NBA roster. If Tarik Black can keep an NBA job then I think Cliff can. Lots of work to do.

Very clever. Leak fake rumor to CW about Diallo not coming here. We know CW will believe anything. Gets our expectations down, just in case. Then boom, make it up to CW give him the scoop on the morning of the real announcement about Diallo coming here. It could happen.

Hope springs eternal I guess.

Well Chieck, It's been real. It's been fun. But it hasn't been real fun. Have fun being on the first KU team not to win the regular season title in over a decade!

Sometimes (and I am going to get flamed here) I feel like we should be dumping our resources into the "4 star" guys, you know the ones who have a chip on their shoulder, that will stay 2 years plus (Monte Morris, Georges Niang) and develop into good to great players. I would love to have a 8 man rotation of these guys, and you can win a national title doing it, especially with the transfers sprinkled in. Dirty recruiting in college basketball is the worst kept secret there is and the UNC scandal being swept under the rug, as well as the NCAA likely looking the other way with UK and Calipari, (you can't tell me he is clean after 2 schools say otherwise).

Its frustrating is all I am trying to say. Its like trying to date the hottest girl in high school, and competing with everyone else. She is likely a spoiled ***** and worthless in the sack. Now her friend who is almost as hot feels like she has to work much harder and EARN what she gets.

On a recent podcast Hines said that will be the somewhat subtle change in our approach. MA was working on the top 10 guys (with small chances to sign) while TJ will cast a wider net. I'm all for that approach. I'd also like to see us have some focus on foundation guys like GN, MM and MT rather then the one and done types. Winning is kinda cool regardless of how we do it.

You are wrong. #Fact

Yet we finished 2nd in conference, won the tournament, were ranked in single digits and are picked by many to be the hot team next year. We're doing SOMETHING right with our cobbled together roster of misfits and nobodys.

I still believe.

P.S. Not to be *that* guy, but why is there a new thread to just report that people are hearing KU is a frontrunner? Don't we have a Diallo thread that could use some juicy rumor mill water-cooler talk to get it back on track?

Before we say the way to go is to give up on the top 10-20 players and concentrate on the rest of the top 50 or whatever the strategy of the moment is, let's keep in mind that Fred's self stated goal is to win championships - not just the conference but the national type as well. It is exceedingly rare for a team to win it all without at least one McD AA on the roster. You don't need a squad full of them, but having a difference maker that pretty much no other team can counter makes a huge difference. Georges could be argued to be that kind of player. If he was 2 or 3 inches taller and had a little more leaping ability he probably would have been a burger boy - but those holes in his game are what make it harder to win it all with him as the centerpiece.

Yes, but if Niang was 2" taller and could leap, he probably would have never come to ISU, and by now he would be in the NBA regardless.
