Elite Eight Thread

#2 is exactly what happened. We thumped them two years ago, they adopt our playstyle and go further in the tourney with it. Sunnuva.

ND had a more complete team from a talent standpoint than we've ever had for Hoiball.

They also played a tougher style from what I saw.

They are based on us but with better players in about three spots.

Could ISU run with UK? I'm guessing only 4 out of 10 times.

ISU would have to be more disciplined to have a shot ever against UK.

Notre Dame plays similar in place, but their players seemed to let the shots come to them. They panicked a bit late though.

Haven't we said over and over on here that one tournament and game doesn't make a season in regards to conference strength, etc? Why are we all of sudden acting like Notre Dame was the far superior team all year long? Had ISU been in the position it is certainly possible they could have played well and given Kentucky a run for it. They also could have played poorly and got run out of the gym. Notre Dame was extremely close to losing their first (and second) round games and sitting at home like ISU. Notre Dame played really, really well last night, something this ISU team was capable of playing like. Please don't let one game affect your perception of what this team was capable of.

Auguste made the Kentucky big guys look silly on a number of plays (quickness) but like pretty much everyone else when they got it in deep, game over.

Would have been a much different game without the first two bogus foul calls on Auguste.

MSU v Louisville, the total score might barely crack 100 at this pace.

Both Izzo and Pitino can go to hell for this abortion of basketball they've been allowed to perform the last couple of years.

I agree with Pitino because his teams havent been able to shoot much the last few years, but Izzo seems to generally have a good mux of both. Trice and Valentine can fill it up.

I think it's interesting that this MSU-Louisville game is between two post-hype teams. Last year they were both extremely trendy Final 4/NC picks. They didn't get it done, but this year one of them will. Hopefully that can be ISU next year!

Yeah, it's horrible watching Louisville and Michigan State play basketball.

Every year.

In the Elite 8.

Maybe there's something to learn here.

Anybody cheering for Duke later today? I'm still not a believer in Gonzaga but am hoping they win it all.

Following up on the questions about the Big 12 missing the Elite 8 three straight years. I did more research about conferences missing when they have teams that expect to get there (i.e. have at least one 1 or 2 seed). Big 8/Big 12 has missed 10 times when having a 1 or 2 seed since 1985. They have had a 1 or 2 seed 28 out of the 31 times. This was also the second time a conference missed 3 straight with having a 1 or 2 seed in each of the 3 tournaments. Pac 10 did it from 1989 to 1991.

More info in the link: http://hoopstournament.blogspot.com/2015/03/big-12-misses-elite-eight-for-third.html

Also, Kansas has been a 1 or 2 seed 18 times since 1985 and made the Elite 8 9 times for a 50% rate. It is the same exact rate as ISU.

Refs sure are being nice to Michigan State. Everything is a foul on Louisville. And fouls by Michigan State are not even called. Michigan State always seems to get such breaks from the officials.
