Bowl or Bust

Wonder what the response would be if Rhoads wins 8 games this next year plus gets a Bowl win on top of that. And then gets offered a great job, which he takes and says good-bye to Iowa State. And the entire staff leaves for greener pastures. Would you react with joy?

I'd be thrilled, shocked, and would tip mycap to him.

Let's say the team comes out and wins 4 games next year. Is that enough for you to still want ISU to retain him?

I will trust Pollard to make that call. IMO, CPR could well be fired.

So you would be pleased with the entire staff leaving.

Dude why do you have to create hypothetical situations in order to try to make an argument that supports your narrative? You do it because reality doesn't suit you.

CPR hasn't been getting results. That's what most fans want. They aren't even asking for much. 5-7 wins would be a breath of fresh air. 7 years into his tenure that isn't asking for much. That's simply being accountable.

As long as Jamie Pollard is our AD, Paul Rhoads' job is safe regardless of on-field results.

The only thing that could get him fired by Pollard is something off-field. Keep in mind that Pollard has never fired a coach he hired. He's done a tremendous amount of good in terms of whipping ISU into shape financially and improving our facilities, but he demands literally zero performance accountability for coaches he's hired. We saw it with McDermott, and we're seeing it with Rhoads. The likelihood that another school provides us a golden parachute to end this coaching tenure is unlikely. Paul Rhoads is our football coach as long as Jamie Pollard is here, mark it down, accept it, and move on. Maybe he can get back to where he was. I'd like to see that happen, but at this point there is nothing that makes me believe it will happen.

Disagree. While I agree with you that CPR is safe for next year, as long as he wins 2 or 3 games, JP is all about the bottom line. The athletic department will have to be negatively impacted financially before JP will do something. Plus, if he has another bad year we'll have a full on fan revolt and no way JP could retain him. Also, I think JP will be our AD for another 10 years, no way CPR stays that long.....good or bad.

Dude, you have a coach that certainly has his own issues at Iowa. In fact, you have a couple of them. Fire their ***** and then we can talk.

IMO, you do NOT have ISU's best interests in mind. In fact, you would like for ISU to be terrible and for Iowa to beat them constantly. So the question is WHY you are constantly on Iowa State's board calling for CPR to be fired?

Reality will be what happens this fall. IMO, the Hawkeyes get their rear ends beaten again. Ferentz has lost his team. His starting QB is going to play his senior season at MICHIGAN. Rudock is smart to abandon the sinking ship. And tell me what Reggie Spearman is doing?

Karan Higdon was smart to dump the Hawkeyes and sign with Michigan. Hawkeyes are a joke.

For those of you who say he stays with 5, what if ISU starts 5-0, and ends on a 7 game losing streak?

That 5-0 there, that's a big what if. What if unicorns suddenly appear and trample UNI at the start of the game and ISU romps down the field for a TD? Both seem about the same in terms of likelihoods.

I would be thrilled to see Ferentz let go. Which pretty much makes the rest of your post pointless.

I am confidant we will beat UNI. And Iowa as well.

FTR, Harbaugh and Brian Kelly applied for the job in the fall of 2006. When Chizik left we did not have candidates like that apply for the Iowa State job. The Gene Chizik Era showed just how difficult the job at ISU was and is today.

Changing coaches every couple of years has not worked too well for Kansas football. Why not? You make it sound so simple.

Gene Chizik is responsible for much of the success CPR gets credit for.

The reality is that beyond being a good motivator (for players and fans alike) CPR has not demonstrated any qualities required for running a successful program. He hasn't recruited well. He hasn't hired a quality staff. His game management and in game decisions have been questionable at best.

Name a self respecting football program in America that would stand with a coach with CPR's record. Name a football coach in America who has had success after posting the kind of results CPR has had the last several years. I don't care that his job is hard. If he can't be successful he needs to go.

I would be ******* ecstatic. When's the last time we won 8 games?

Why? If the kid has seen the facilities at OU, for instance, and then sees ISU's and thinks more highly of them, why does it matter? Are 4* kids more intelligent?

No. It gives them more exposure to what the top notch programs have compared to us though. If someone said Iowa State had the best facilities he's seen and his visits are Buffalo, Troy, and Central Michigan it sounds a bit different than a guy saying that after visiting Alabama, Texas, and Notre Dame.

So spend your time on the Hawkeye Message Boards and drive that point home. Over and over and over and over.

So the question is WHY are you constantly on Iowa State's board calling for CPR to be fired when you admittedly are not a Cyclone fan and would rather have Iowa State be terrible and beaten by Iowa constantly?

Well since we aren't a self respecting football program it kind of works out. But yes to your point I don't see it being turned around after having been so bad.

It appears he has an opinion about ISU football and expressed it. Why does it need to be more than that?

If they got to 8 wins I would consider it as lucky as winning the lottery. If that were the case I would not look a gift horse in the mouth and would be fine with any outcome.

I'd much rather hire a new coach because the previous one was successful than because the previous one got fired. Eight wins, dude, that would be great. You like to remind us of our history so much... you must know how many times we've gotten eight wins in a season. How many is it?
