Bowl or Bust

...and the bar has been set.
A bowl would be cool, especially compared to recent years, but winning 6 against the schedule doesn't convince me that ISU is all of the sudden good.
I posted something similar a few months back, but the summary for this season is:
6+ wins = Cadillac (buys good will back)
5 wins = Set of Steak Knives (keeps job)
<5 wins = Fired

I think we all hope that Rhoads can show us he is the man for the job but its all about how this team looks on the field the entire season. Lets say we only win 4 or 5 games, its progress but how did we look on the field in the losses? If we looked competitive and let a couple possible wins slip away then Rhoads is probably safe but if it's like last season and we are getting our butts handed to at the end of the season you better hope Rhoads job is on the line else Pollard will need to start answering some questions how he is accepting mediocrity in football while he has accepted much less in other sports. I just hope that 1 way or another we have a definitive answer to this question next season, either Rhoads turns this thing around or its obvious it is time to cut ties and move on to a fresh look.
JP fired Morgan and fired DMac (just let him go out on his own terms) and pushed out Douglas. Of course none of them were "his" gusy. But when it comes to CPR, his mind set is different. He is just looking for any excuse to keep him. IMO he is too close to his coaches and he lets his personal feelings and friendships override what needs to be done.
Even with the facilities it is still one of the toughest jobs in the country. If this team struggles this year again a new coach will also have to upgrade the talent big time. It wont be any easy rebuild.

So you plan on using the Kansas Football Method? That has been extremely successful hasn't it?
If that's true (which I don't think it is), lets just stop showing up for football games now. If we aren't going to place any emphasis on winning, then why show up?
I'm firmly in the "bowl game or bust" year for Rhoads. I really, really hope he succeeds because I like him but 2 god awful seasons followed by a bowl-less season in this era of football is not acceptable.
What makes you think ISU is not trying to win?
What makes you think hiring a new head coach would make us immediately successful? And who is this miraculous head coach you are going to hire?
I never said we aren't trying. I said if we aren't going to place emphasis on winning, HUGE difference. I know Rhoads is trying as hard as he can but ultimately you are judged by wins. Seriously, what message does it send to the fans to retain a coach whose last 3 seasons were 3, 2, and <5 wins per season. That wouldn't be tolerated at ANY Power 5 school.
Your "we can't get anyone better" argument is awful. We could get a dozen good candidates if we'd pay them.
Why should our horrendous history dictate the urgency for winning? Sports is a multi-billion dollar industry, unlike the 90s, and ISU sitting back and letting it pass the school even further is a terrible decision for the university as a whole. College football dictates a lot for a university from exposure to undergraduate enrollment numbers. If you look around the league, every "have not" Big 12 school has reached a BCS-level bowl at least once in the last decade, and each university has seen significant results athletically and throughout the institution. The correlation exists, as sports serve as a front door to the university. The only school to not reach a BCS-level bowl in the last decade is ISU. Even Kansas reached a BCS bowl. I'm not setting the bar at making a New Years Six (BCS level) bowl, but making excuses for 3-9 and 2-10 seasons, while letting Baylor, K-State, OSU, etc., get ahead will be the death of our athletic department, and will hamper the University's ability to grow nationally.
This arguing point is so insulting to Iowa State University. Really frustrates me that our own fans use that excuse to rip our institution's ability to be successful.
First of all we have not had 3, 2, and < 5 wins in the last 3 seasons. So you seem to not know a helluva lot.
And your Kansas Football strategy has been implemented there without success. And I am not really impressed with their last coaching hire.
We are actually fortunate to have Rhoads. He has proven that he can coach with big wins. We will turn it around this year hopefully.
