I'm not into the craft beer scene so I usually turn to something else but unlike so many people, I don't have to like every segment on a show to like the show.
I would completely support this decision. Jay turned traditional sports talk on its head in a good way and he's a fun listen. Way better than almost any other sports talk show.
Have you actually listened to Rome? Or are you just parroting a tired, worn-out, and untrue cliché dating back to an incident from the mid-1990's?
Rome is not a ****. His interviews are extremely respectful and insightful -- and almost always better than the fluff interviews you hear on any other show. Go actually listen to one of his interviews.
He's successful because he understands (rightly so) that nobody wants to hear a bunch of terrible callers. He doesn't allow terrible callers on his show and runs them. There's nothing wrong with that, unless you subscribe to the theory that we should give everyone participation medals and tell everyone they're a beautiful snowflake.
Keith Murphy mentioned on Monday's "Murphy & Andy" show that they made the same decision for WHO-TV's Sound-Off -- fewer callers, more analysis from the hosts. Why? Because the viewers SAID they wanted to hear more takes from the hosts and less callers.
I for 1 will not be listening to Marty and Miller simply because I can't stand Marty as it seems like he's become the herpes of DM area radio as for as many chances he's had and blown he still won't go away. Couldn't stand him before with Ken, never listened to him after he got canned at KXNO and now that Ken has gone running back to him like an old HS girlfriend that just found out her old flame is available again just gives me more reason not to want to listen to any show Marty is a part of.
The person I really feel bad for here is Heather Burnside because she's a great personality and just can't seem to catch a break lately. Really hope that KXNO can find a good co-host replacement to pair with her and make it work out, I would guess that Heather will take the high road and not be bitter at Ken but if I were in her shoes I'd be ****** right now at him as surely she would not have accepted the co-host job if she knew he was working out something to leave KXNO and shame on Ken for at least not doing her the courtesy of having some kind of "off the record" conversation about what he was up to so she knew what she was getting into.
KXNO really goofed on this one. How they did not have some kind of non-compete clause in their biggest on-air personality (outside of Murph and Andy that is) is crazy. How they fill the 4-7pm slot now could make or break them. Really going to miss some of the weekly guests Ken had lined up that are likely now headed over to his new show such as David Kaplan and all his NFL guys like Mike Florio and the team beat guys they have every Friday. That's the biggest blow to that time slot for sure because I would guess most of those regular call-in guests are not tied into the show as much as who hosts it. Then again I miss Jay Mohr Sports so I wouldn't be opposed to getting that back for the drive home. I can't stand Eisen's show, too much NFL and it will get really boring between the draft and training camp this summer.

I can understand this from a non-UNI fan how Gary would be annoying, but I'm not so sure what the problem is. The dude is passionate about his school and it shows through his commentary. Even in down seasons he brings enthusiasm. He's knowledgeable about the sports he covers, the players and coaches from his school and from the opponents.
Stick to your Keystone Light. It's a great segment for people who are interested in craft beer or people who are just getting into it. They talked about Oskar Blues a little bit today since they entered the market this week. I guarantee a handful of people stopped by HyVee and grabbed a 6 pack of Dale's because they were curious about what they had heard.
I don't know Marty Tirrell personally, so I can't speak to what kind of person he is. I do know that his on air persona is loud, obnoxious, and largely uninformed. I'll pass on this show.
Don't get me wrong, that earlier comment was tongue in cheek. I don't understand how people listen to some of the shows, but certainly I'd support guys like CW and Blum.

If callers were good it would be one thing. Most of time they are a ******* that has no clue to what they are talking about.
The problem with the cohost thing is it is basically Ken's show. He had do have some sort of input on who was hired. If you take the job as his co host you are going to do it Ken's way. Not many people would want that. It would be a tough job to step into.
I think people get that not everyone likes the same things but find it annoying, and I believe why you rec’d several responses on your passive aggressive comment, to suggest local sports talk is somehow dead just because (as we now know) YOU don’t personally care for it.
The very first show with Heather Ken opened with a line like "well 10 years ago I would have thought I'd never work with a woman and now here I am." There has to be a least a little bit of truth there.

Saying the right things, but of course Ken has been around long to know how to be diplomatic about the situation.
Really? I assumed he put up some big sponsorship money for that segment because it is soooo boring and his voice is just grating to me.
Never said I don't like unique beers, just bores me to hear about them for 20 minutes on the radio. I don't need to hear someone else talking about a beer for me to go try it myself.
As for Gary I'm not even going to argue. Guy is the epitome of a goofball and annoying, don't care how much he knows about sports.
