Harold Nichols open

I have never really followed the Souther Scuffle (OR Cliff Keen in Las Vegas), but can RS wrestle at those tournaments? Seems like putting Boston in the Scuffle could help you make your decision on whether to start him or not.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Larson will be good, but you cannot deny that Boston lost to the #3 guy by one point. Put the best option out there. We're solid at 165-197 not to mention Earl Hall and Meeks are capable of doing well. I would say why not and burn the RS. Even if that means throwing Rodriguez out there a time or two. It could mean a middle teens ranking to upwards of top ten you never know.

Boston lost to Waters 5-1 and it was never really in doubt. Wouldn't say he got dominated but he never really got anything going. Would love to see a rematch at the end of the season because I guarantee Nathan will be better by then and that is very exciting. His semifinal win was impressive to say the least. Future is definitely bright with young guys like him, Harrington, and Rodriguez in the program.

I would by surprised if Boston's RSIs pulled unless Larson gets hurt bad

Why would he balk at pulling anyones RS? He did it with John Meeks? I'm not saying he should pull RS's. I personally think they benefit just about everyone. It's very rare where a guy doesn't need one. I was just under the impression that KJ has a different philosophy since he wasn't afraid to put Meeks out there two years ago.

I agree. I thought it was chicken **** and I'm kind of embarrassed. I also think KJ was ducking Cox so he sat his whole team. We could've had great matches with Walsh and Houdashelt plus many more. If you don't want Kyven to wrestle, fine, sit him. But the whole team? Cmon man! What has this once proud program become. I'm tired of KJ. What happened to they guy who's goal was to beat the best every year? Remember his rhetoric when he was hired? What happened to that guy? The guy we have right now is chicken ****.

Internet tough guy...I'd like to see you call KJ this to his face!

Didn't Larson beat Boston 3to 1 at young open last week

Yea, but familarity could be the reasoning for that. Kinda why I was hoping Woiwor and Gottel would both be wrestling this weekend to see them against some more compeition other then themselves.

Maybe include this with season tickets.

I think John Meeks was way ahead of anybody we had at 133 when he was a freshman. We struggled for a couple years at that weight.

Now I don't think that is the problem at 125 with Boston. I think Larson is a very capable 125 pounder and based on recent results Boston definitely isn't way ahead of Kyle.

Pretty sure I would say anything that I write on this forum to the persons face. I'm comfortable with what I said.

I stand by my claim that he's turned into a chicken ****, if you listen to his rhetoric when he was hired compared to his actions with this Harold Nichols Open.

I think it's funny when someone throws the "internet toughguy" card on a fan forum.

It was a different situation with Meeks though, we basically had no one else that could competitively fill the spot. Also, his redshirt was pulled after what ended up being his best performance of the year at the Harold Nichols open, where it looked like he might be able to contend for something at NCAAs (good win and tight losses to ranked guys).

At this point the room is rebuilt and we've got guys at every weight that are good enough you don't need to pull a redshirt, Larson will do fine in the lineup. But with Moreno and Gadson graduating after this season it might be worth pulling a redshirt for someone who could win just one or two extra matches at NCAAs. That said, Larson beat Boston last week so I assume the spot is his for now.

I disagree. I think Terukina could've produced the same results that Meeks did.

Speaking of Terukina. He's not on the team anymore? I don't think he was a senior last year, but I may be mistaken. What happened with him?

Looking at the brackets for last year's Scuffle, there were a handful of unattached guys competing. Don't see anybody unattached in the Cliff Keen brackets.

Lost interest, I assume. Still at Iowa State and seeing Hall and Meeks at 133 & 141 probably handwriting on the wall.
That is why I always praise guys like RJ Hallman, Quinn Wilson, Kerry Moody staying with the program (All are Redshirt Seniors)

I hope we do not pull Boson's shirt. I believe you only pull one if you think it is the difference between a team trophy or not. Staff and fans overreacted to JM's HNO results two years ago. I wish he would have redshirted, he didn't. Hopefully JM is healthy and will compete to the level we all hope.

I just looked and both Utah Valley and Boise State also held their starters out of their open tournaments last weekend. That could have had an impact on our decision, I guess.

However, Utah Valley and Boise State have a whopping zero ranked wrestlers and (as far I a can tell with a quick check) one returning NCAA qualifier between them. I'm sure it was very important we were fully rested to take on such illustrious foes.
