Placing the blame on the defense

I am not saying the defense should not have allot of the blame placed on them for losing this game, however, did the offense not stall and had to settle for a field goal when they had first down at the seven yard line. Also, did not Sam throw a pick six. Also, remember the defense did pick up a touchdown on the fumble recovery.

It just sucks that both units cannot put together a game together, and produce a win.

The offense played good enough to win. The defense didn't. And it does suck because the defense this year has been surprisingly good. Not great and not as good as it should be, but better than I had thought. You can't just lose Coe and Irving and expect things to be good. Those were two big losses.

I wouldn't say we put on the blame on the defense. I would say you place the congratulations on the Texas offense for stepping up and making big plays when it was crunch time.

It sucks that we had to tack on another tough loss in the Rhoads Era, but I am not dissapointed by this team in any way after last night.

Considering Texas' quarterback and offense had their best days of the year it's pretty fair to place the blame mostly on the defense.

The offense put up 38 points. For a team with two defensive-minded coaches leading the program that should be enough to win against just about anyone not named Baylor.

I honestly think this may be the only loss since CPR took over that our d let down our offense. Our offense was actually fun to watch and had a clutch lightning strike drive to end the game.

ISU's offense put up 38 on arguably the best defense in the Big 12. ISU put up almost 350 passing yards on a team that was allowing around 150 on average. The defense lost this game, no question. However, this is what everyone expected at the beginning of the year, and I would argue that the defense is still exceeding my expectations, even last night.

Next 3 games are against 3 of the bottom 5 defenses, so it will be interesting to see what the offense does. Hopefully the defense uses the bye week to regroup and get healthy.

I said last week if I were in charge of a game plan against Iowa State, I would just throw it deep every play, because you know you're either going to get a pass interference of a huge gain.

A lot of posters got mad that I said that. However, as we saw yesterday, it's true. Texas nearly doubled their passing yards in a game.

I'm asking you because I honestly don't know my thoughts and I find you as a down-to-earth poster, does our defense get any better in the future?

Luke Knott is the only bright spot I can find in our future defense.

Also, (not towards Chuck) Brackins is not to blame for that. He had a hell of a game before that ****ed up coverage

We didn't throw it deep every play.....

Only Luke Knott? Come on that's just simply ignorance and proves that your opinion should be ignored.

Nigel Tribune, TJ, Cotton-Moya. There are other good defensive players out there.

Brackins was a bright spot minus that play. He plays with a lot of urgency.

I said gameplan AGAINST Iowa State. When it came down to it, those last two plays Texas just lobbed it up and both times had an open receiver down field.

And the embarrassing thing is that we knew it was coming and we still couldn't stop it.

You know I don't read good.

I do fear that the defense may have peaked, but last year they got better late in the year, and I'm hoping they can this season. Even last night they showed some bright spots after giving up the quick 14, and lets not forget the D only gave up 27 points in the last 52 minutes. It was awesome to see the blitzing (which ultimately lead to some big plays from Texas), and hopefully they start doing some pass rushing a little more the rest of the way. Full disclosure, I am maybe the most optimistic person I know, but I'd put myself as cautiously optimistic with the D.

I do agree on Brackins; he was one of the better players last night sans that blown coverage.

"Texas scored 23 points total on Kansas' Defense. Kansas."

Just like the NFL...it's not who you play, it's when you play them. This is not the same Texas team (or QB) that lost to BYU or beat Kansas. This team (and QB specifically) is evolving and improving. It's unfortunate, but he had his best game yet, against us. He is finally getting his confidence running the ball and throwing deeper. And he has weapons that are bigger and faster than our young corners. He still makes mistakes, but he is ascending as the season goes on.

So is the ISU offense. Defense probably does not have much more ceiling this year. Next year, the Dline will have far more depth, experience and strength (barring unforeseen dismissals) and the D overall will be improved. Couple that with this emerging offense, and I see more wins next year.

I for one support letting CPR have a couple more years to correct his mistakes in recruiting and coaching hires. I think he's on the right track, now. I'd much rather take the gradual route than start all over with a completely new staff and the potential drop off in recruiting and transfers and attrition from a coaching change. That could set us back several years, again. We are getting really close to having winning records, again.

I knda like our chances against OU, after seeing our offense against a good UT defense. Same UT defense (and team) that played 3 good quarters against OU - and could have won. A couple timely turnovers (which our D has been getting) and the OU game is winnable. We're due for another CPR upset special or two. I think it could happen this year, with our improving offense.

The defense has been bad this year, just not as totally bad as some feared it might be, at least until last night.

The offense has not been good until last night.

To borrow the "almost a solid team" theme from another thread, we are not yet close on D and might be turning a corner on O but it is only one game. You have to be solid on both sides of the ball and we have not been close to solid as a whole team. Game to game, half to half, quarter to quarter we have not idea what to expect.
