Iowa Energy sign ex-ISU star Stinson | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

So it looks like the Iowa Hawkergy is adding a cyclone to the mix.

Does anyone follow the energy?

Will you be more inclined to go to a game to watch Stinson?

I really could care less about the energy and Stinson, maybe I'm still bitter that he and Will B. took of with a season of eligibility remaining. I will continue to save my entertainment dollars for Hilton and Jack Trice.

What are your thoughs

Who cares. If you like to go watch boring basketball with 25 other people, AND overpay for beers and hotdogs, check out the Energy. I give the team another 2 years.

Agree, I have no desire to watch the energy to play. Maybe if they bring in Hot Sauce and the Professor I'd watch.

Wells Fargo Arena is good for drawing big concerts, NCAA Tournaments, etc..., but for AF2, Hockey and D-League BBall the best arena would be one that seats 6,000-7,000 people, and that just isn't going to happen. The atmosphere at Stars and Energy games is just horrible, particularly the Energy.

I might check them out now. But I loved watching Curt play at ISU. I miss it.

Iowa Energy is doing what it needs to do to attract to the des moines audiences. Pulling in as many Iowa and Iowa State players as possible get the newspapers talking and draws interest from former fans of those players. Even those who weren't fans will at least recognize the players instead of watching a bunch of strangers play. Many on here, including myself, still won't watch Iowa Energy because we just don't care. However, I am sure every signing of a familiar player draws interest from a new fan. That is exactly what the marketing people for Iowa Energy need to do. I hope it works and the team support grows, because it is good for Des Moines and the state of Iowa in general.

Stinson was great. However I don't care about Semi Pro basketball unless Will Farrell is player/manager/owner. Then I would go and watch him fight a bear.

Four more home games.

The Stinson signing does't excite me but I woul be more inclined to watch the Energy if they had ISU players I liked better. I think if Jiri or Rahshon were playing for them ISU fans might care more, Stinson kind of left on shaky standing IMO so some fans are still a little bitter towards him.

And in the Energy's defense (I have only been to 1 game BTW) I don't think the basketball they play is too bad actually. It's a hybrid of the college and NBA game. And I do believe despite what we consider poor attendance it is one of the better teams in the league for attendance: NBDL Attendance

4th in home and 3rd in total attendance. The league average is 2859 a game and the Energy are averaging 3677. The top team average in attendance is Sioux Falls at 3923 so I think a strategy of bringing more former Iowa college players to the team could easily translate into more tickets sold. Stinson probably won't equal about 300 more tickets sold but think next season if you add someone like Rahshon and Eminecker to that team who central Iowa fans have grown to like, you might sell a few more tickets than what you could if you didn't have them.

The one Energy game I went to was actually a pretty fun game, I thought. Don't get me started on the ticket line, the concessions, and the halftime/time out "entertainment". And most of all, the pukeye fans who were there all decked out in pukeye garb cheering only for Haluska and Horner, and booing Blalock every time he touched the ball. They even started "Let's Go Hawks!" chants periodically. I may go to an Energy game to see Stinson, but please Cyclone fans, do not embarass yourselves by starting "Let's Go State!" chants or anything of that nature!

I did enjoy the game itself though, I think it would draw more people if the D-League season were during the college/NBA offseason. I think that is one thing the Barnstormers will have going for them.

Emmenecker is going to work for Principal next year, he already signed with them, so I doubt he'll be playing dleague bball.
