I'm a regular poster with a new name for this. After a lot of praying and talking it's time to admit I'm an alcoholic. For the past 15 years my life has revolved around alcohol. I need to stop before I hit rock bottom.

As of Saturday I've had my last drink. I must succeed. I will succeed.

Wish me luck.

It is better to not drink at all than drink too much. Credit to you for realizing this before you're in too deep. Best of luck and hopefully your friends and family will keep you busy/distracted so you don't have to do this alone.

The first step, and often times most difficult one, is getting to the point where you admit it. That's not easy. Best of luck the rest of the way.

Best of luck to you.

One word of advice, do not fall into the trap of "I can try just one" after about 6 months. We former smokers fooled ourselves with that one many times. I can promise it will work the same with alcohol.

Best of luck and good luck in beating this horrible thing. Keep your head up and you can conquer anything.

You've taken a very difficult and important step already by admitting your problem. YOU CAN DO THIS.

That's a huge first step and one of many, but people will be there to support you. Don't be afraid to lean on someone when you need it!

Good luck!

Also, I read something a few days ago that might be a good idea if you ever get the "urge."

Try developing a good habit that you will do instead of getting something to drink every time you get the urge. Like, instead of getting a beer, go and do ten pushups (or whatever good habit you might want to start doing). That way, you can not only quit a bad habit, but start a good one as well.

Cheers!

Good luck to you. I've known quite a few people who succeeded and a few who did not. Those who didn't did not get any help and never admitted they had a real problem.

It's a lifestyle change, but can definitely be done. Best of luck to you. Get a good support network and rely on them.
