U of I Being Sued by Former Football Player

Could be an interesting one to watch. I think it will eventually get thrown out and will be argued over where does the line of liability fall. Both parties are to blame.

What's going on there? Former players calling out the university. Current players calling out fans. Fans calling out coaches. Coaches calling out referees.

I'm an Iowa fan, although I think you guys can agree a fairly level headed one (think not Deanvogs) so maybe this can be viewed as not a flame worthy question. Why is he waiting 3 years after the incident happened?

When did his scholarship end? My guess, the timing has something to do with his involvement with the university.

Because he finally got in touch with an attorney outside of Iowa City?

Good question. Maybe he was waiting until after he finished school there? Or maybe he was coming up on a deadline...is there a statute of limitations for something like this?

He was released from his scholarship, but remained in school at Iowa. Seems odd that a couple years later he all of the sudden wants to sue the school which he chose to finish(?) his education at and allegedly ruined his future. If you wanted to take legal action against a school, why would you A) continue to go there, and B) why would you give a **** if you sued them while you were still there or not?

I'm sure he got all his medical treatment paid for so I'm assuming he just wants some money. I hate how sue happy our culture is nowadays.

I'm sure there is some more law conscious person around here than me, but I think this is pretty standard practice in a lot of cases. There is a lot of back and forth between attorneys and insurance companies, then there would be collection of data to see if there is a case, probably organizing expert witnesses, etc...

All that could take a while to organize and present as a "case". May be part of the reason.
