Student Section

If you didn't get into the game you probably didn't spend any time outside freezing your balls off.

Just sayin'.
We stood in line for 4:30 for the Iowa game and were some of the last people in. I would guess you had to stand in line for at least 3 hours to get in.

I stayed in line for 3.5 hours and they stopped the line 2-3 people after me

I think they should oversell the entire arena for our biggest games next year and you guys who have been loyal fans for years can get screwed out of watching the biggest games while you freeze your balls off outside. Let's see if that makes you more motivated to go to every game. It was one of the coldest winters in a long time and those long waits for those big games really ****** off a ton of students. Students go to games in groups so if you **** off enough groups of kids, which has happened, then attendance goes way down because the games are no longer fun.

The tickets need to have some VALUE. Right now a student ticket is worth nothing. Make it something that people want but can't get - boom you have full seats every night because the students who have tickets but won't be there will sell their tickets or give them to friends.

Why does this nonsense argument keep getting regurgitated? First of all there is no need to oversell regular seating because the fans show up. Second of all, there were only lines for a couple of games at the beginning of the season.

I say the non student ticket holders should wait outside in the cold as long as the students do. I bet they wouldn't mind it though, because the are such great, loyal fans.

That doesn't mean it isn't a big reason for the attendance. While you can just show up to the games now people have soured on the season. They were excited then the Iowa game happened and then break. It really killed the excitement. Whether you think it is valid or not is up to you, but it is one of the bigger reasons I have gotten for poor attendance.

If they aren't going to games anymore because they are mad they had to stand in line against our top competition I really don't they they were going to come to any of the other games anyway.

This. I bought a student ticket for the Iowa game for $40, waited in line for 2.5 hours in the cold, and had about 10 people in front of me before I was cut off and couldn't get into the game. That really ****** me off, and my reaction was very mild compared to most of the people around me.

Granted, I am no longer a student at ISU, but when I was I could've counted on one hand the number of men's basketball games I didn't go to in 4 years, so I don't want to hear the argument that I didn't get in because I'm not a "real" fan. The problem now is that you get the bandwagon students that just show up for the big games, which knocks out some students that regularly go to games from getting in. I could tell just by standing in line that a lot of the people going to the game had never been to one all year until that night.

I tried to stay out of this thread, but it just pisses me off that there's not a way to combat this problem right now. Loyalty should have some value when determining who gets in to the big games like that, IMO.

You really don't understand the mindset of marginal fans do you. They are quick to jump on and off the bandwagon. It isn't right, but it is the way it is.

So there have been 3 games where there have been long lines. every other game including 3 top 25 conf opp. you could of shown up at game time and got a seat.

Jesus... This is still going on?

We get it. The students are the worst student section in the history of mankind. We're awful. Just take away our seats already. We're too mean to McGary, we're too nice to everyone, we're not drunk enough, Cyclone Alley sucks, we are on our phones too much, the curly haired chick should leave, and the old people were 10x the fans we were back in their day.

More cry whining and defelection away from the awful attendance by students. Facts are facts and the attendance sucks.

No I completely understand the concept of marginal fans, I just think your reasons don't make sense. They are mad that they had to wait in line a couple times so they don't come to any more games even though they don't have to wait in line? Add to that they can show up at the tip if they want and sit in the lower deck.

I do think the problem is marginal fans and the reason for bad attendance has no more depth to it than students not caring.

Nobody has had to wait in line except for Kansas, Iowa, and Michigan if they didn't want to. Why do people not get this? I have not waited outside since the Kansas game and I am always in the parquet.
