I need to vent.

I went to bed last night watching the late Sportscenter and ISU-KU highlights are on. ESPN showed 3 of ISU worse plays of the game, then talked about how bad ISU is againts ranked team, then old crazy eyes calls the Cyclone the Hawkeyes to end it all.

I get up this morning turn on C and C, and they are not talking about the game but Larry is talking about how all the Drake starters should be first team all MVC. Later I hear him and P. Hardy make excuses for the problems with the Iowa football team.

I open the Register and read 2 good strories on the game, I go to look at the boxscore and they have the Iowa-PSU box score in with the ISU story and no ISU-KU box score can be found.

During a road trip today that took me in a big circle I was tired the only song on the raido being "I'm not going to write you a love song" (ha ha now it will be stuck in you head too) I turned on KXNO. Jon did talk about the ISU game to lead his show off but I am not yet sure if he watched the game. He did talk a lot about Iowa's poor showing and then played their coach throwing the team under the bus, something that was a nono under SA but its ok for TL to do, then I turned it since the McD talking was moved. Later in the day I turned it on to hear the McD talk but insted I hear TL talking about in a round about way how bad Iowa gets screwed by the refs. Then the McD talk was on.

WHY ISNT THERE AN ISU CYCLONE FAN IN THE LOCAL MEDIA, ALL I WANT IS ONE BESIDES JOHN WALTERS?

Why dont people have Gary Thompson on the local raido to talk ISU Basketball and NCAA Baskball in general? Talk about someone that knows the game and knows it from a more than local view. I think there is another college BB TV guy that lives in Ames, why not have him on too?

I feel better now.

I remember watching Sportcenter after we took Texas to OT. They showed no ISU highlights, it was all Texas. They didn't even show Clark's dunk.
But, I guess I'm used to it now...

Ohhhh.... Drake is doing well and Iowa only lost by 2 last night. We lost by more. We can't expect too much right now. We are stinking it up.

We got of plenty of coverage the year we made it to the Elite 8. Mark my words, when Mcdermott gets us in the top 20 again, we'll get some good press again.

Iowa is worse than ISU is at this point, the bottom of the Big 1102 is a lot lower than the bottom of the Big 12. Well I hope it is anyway. I can see the Drake think but if Larry really thinks that way what does that say about the rest of the conference?

ISU has done nothing to deserve coverage. They talk about ISU being bad against ranked teams because under McDermott ISU is 0 fer. At least they are not talking about how we are 0 fer against MVC teams under McDermott. (This is not a bash him post)

If ISU starts winning, like a run in the Big 12 tourney, then people will talk about ISU. Nobody cares if ISU ALMOST beat Texas or has a moral victory against Kansas by beating them in the second half.

This is why I am really hopeful that 1700 taps into the Cyclone market with local shows. Even some non-biased reporting would be nice.

I get that the Cyclone are struggling, but they need to be talked about in someway by people that have watched them play. I dont want all the airtime to be Clones but is more than 10 mins a day too much to ask?

Honestly what's there to talk about from a Cyclone standpoint? Look at this message board for example. The last two weeks it's all been about whether Mac is the right guy and how Morgan did or didn't get the shaft. We are hardcore fans here and that's the best we can come up with to chat about. Times are grim right now, we need football season to start again.

I can't address the local coverage issues but you need to know that ISU is totally irrelevant in BB at this point from a national perspective. People around the country are not tuning into SportsCenter to hear how the 11th place team in the Big 12 did last night. They are tuning in to hear how the top rated, NCAA-bound teams did. So, even if ISU beats KU the other night the story is "KU is upset"...not "ISU wins first big game of McDermott era"...at least from a national perspective.

I understand that, but old crazy eyes needs to get his teams right. They could show a good ISU play. If they dont care about ISU why do they need to put up negative ISU stats.

It's true, other than us, not too many people care about ISU BB.

I doubt if many people national even care about Drake, and they are winning!! Until they can get some Cinderella tournament coverage, people don't even know where Drake is.

When you lose as consistently as ISU does then you have to expect some negative coverage .... Conversely when you win you get all the coverage and everyone jumps on the bandwagon...

Lets hope that some day that McDermott can finally win more conference games than he loses...

why would ESPN want to show ISU highlights when we are a pretty terrible team, nobody wants to see that, they want to see the good teams like KU and Texas to keep viewers entertained. No brainer really

also, ESPN was probably pissed they covered the ISU v KU game b/c it was such a boring game and they prolly didnt get many viewers

Unfortunately, there are a lot more Kansas and Texas fans out there than ISU fans. Naturally, ESPN is going to play to the bigger audience, which in-turn earns them a greater amount of revenue. Plus, who has time for sports highlights with coverage of the greatest highlight ever, NFL free agency, and steroid use in baseball.

I tend to think Brett Musburger, ESPN/ABC announcer, does the same thing during sporting events he covers. If ISU is playing Nebraska in football, he'll have (12) stories about players/coaches for every (1) ISU player/coach story. Why spend time with ISU, when Nebraska's fan base helps to pay the bills with a bigger audience.

Plus, other than Jiri's up and under layup in the first half, what highlights did ISU have? You have to actually generate some highlight worthy plays to get them shown on national sports TV shows.

On the other hand, the lack of local coverage is ridiculous. I don't think it's too much to ask for a metro area of 500K that's within 30 miles of the ISU campus to have at least one media outlet/show that is slanted toward the Clones at least some of the time.
