ISU 17th in AP poll.

Just because some fans think Iowa is ranked too highly, doesn't necessarily mean they're distraught or outraged. Simply an informed opinion of output so far.

For the record, I agree with those who hope Iowa stays ranked prior to head-to-head, along w/ ISU taking care of business the next 3 games. It'll give the matchup a more prominent profile.

I think the thing that has a lot of folks PO'd about the squawks being ranked is that if we had played the same schedule with the same results we would not be ranked at all. We'd be down in the "others receiving votes" category.

yeah, but they almost won the NIT last year.... doesnt that count for anything?

Hawkeye nation slowly and silently hijacking CF. They're like HIV, taking over one cell (thread) at a time.

HAHAHA, Lil Brother hijacked this thread. It was supposed to be about ISU being ranked, and ISU fans turned it into a rivalry thread about Iowa....this might be the 5th post in 9 pages by a Hawk fan. I'm just enjoying the off track train wreck, good stuff.

I enjoy this weekly read --- Parrish really rips one voter (with legitimate reason) regarding placement of VCU relative to other teams.

Poll attacks

I'm all for voters using a resume based ranking system more than the typical, as long as you don't lose you move up and if you lose you drop regardless of who you played approach that most voters use, but if Parrish is actually doing that than there is no way Marquette should be ranked in his top 25. Marquette is 3-1 with single digit wins over Southern and New Hampshire, they haven't beat a single team ranked in the top 225 according to KenPom and they managed only 35 points in a 17 point loss to Ohio St. KenPom has them ranked 72nd which seems much more appropriate than in the top 25. Also, putting Syracuse, whose best win prior to today was St Francis, ahead of Wisconsin seems to go against his preference for a resume based ranking system.

Same thing is happening at HN. Threads slowly turning into ISU vs. Iowa debates. Definitely going to be one of the more highly anticipated games that I can remember between the two schools.

Little different debate: From the Jon Miller himself....defending ISU.

@HawkeyeNation: ISU 22 in coaches poll, Iowa 23. Michigan is 20, with two losses and who ISU beat. Yeah, that makes sense.

@HawkeyeNation: . @bluetokarz no, I am obsessed with logic. Iowa State beat Michigan head to head...should be rated higher than they are.

We are higher than Michigan in the AP. Everyone knows the coaches polls can't be taken too seriously. I'm surprised anyone even cares about the poll at all. It should be irrelevant, or better yet, completely done away with.

So, to steer this back towards Iowa State a little bit, I think we'll probably end up staying put this week. It doesn't look like any of the possibly over-ranked teams ahead of us have any big challenges this week, except maybe Florida playing Florida State. However, it doesn't look like anybody behind us has a big enough opponent scheduled to leapfrog us.

Guess I was wrong about this with Gonzaga getting knocked of in Maui last night. I wonder if that will be considered a bad enough loss to drop them below ISU in the poll, seeing as Dayton has been getting some media attention as an under-the-radar good team.

I have no problem with where Iowa is ranked. I have a problem with it being constantly discussed in this thread. I know it is my problem and I just contributed to it.

Where we are ranked within the top 25 right now is pretty irrelevant.

I predict Iowa plays mostly zone when Woodbury is on the floor (assuming Niang is playing the five). If Olaseni is in the game they'll probably play man.

How much Woodbury plays will depend a lot on how well Niang is shooting from three.

Yes to zone and Yes to Woodbury being on the floor

I'm sure the irony of this post is lost on you.

Must suck to read only 15 posts a page.
