Two NC State Players eat with kid sitting alone

I don't like how people are making a big deal out of it. Like the guy is a charity case. Maybe they know him and they had already made plans. If they did do it because they felt bad that he was eating alone, they probably didn't do it to get their picture sent around the internet.

A lot of ISU players eat with guys that are eating alone. I've never seen anyone take a picture.

I agree. I would hope that most students (regardless of student athlete status) would be cordial to everyone.

I remember when I was a student there was another student who had some difficulties socially and one day she came up to me SO excited because Paul Shirley had sat with her at MWL and had lunch. I saw how much it meant to her, so I would say if there is more to this story and their status as athletes helped make that person's day (or they are the person that ALWAYS sits alone), great...but, again, us "average" people can have the same impact by being kind to strangers as well.

Well not a picture of them sitting with some random. My son had a good laugh when some girls he was sitting with stayed for a half hour after they were done eating debating whether they were going to go get a picture with Percy. Same girls took a picture of a guy in one of their classes just because he is a friend of Woody's. He knows some strange girls apparently.

Man, I ate lunch alone all the time when I was in college and I had lots of friends. Sometimes it was just nice to have some quiet time and read the Daily. It would have been cool to meet some of the football team, but I would have been ****** to be made out as some sort of charity case over it.

Back in my day, I lived in the Towers, as did many of the football team. For the women, they were kind of a nuisance because the Towers had about a 7:3 ratio of men to women. One of them decided to just rip the water fountain out of the wall on the first floor of Storms for no apparent reason. And some of them were pretty nice guys.

I do find it odd that they are making this kid out to be some charity case though.

Here's my issue. When you see something like that your response shouldn't be "wow, look how courageous those FB players are, I better snap a picture" Your response should be "why don't I do **** like that to help others."

Sorry for the rant.

Alvin Bowen did this to me and my roommate once. Out of the blue he walked up and asked if we were expecting anyone to join us and asked if he could. Pretty cool experience for us.

If you look at the picture it is clear that the kid is in a wheel chair and has some kind of handicap. Classy move by the two players, some of you are so cynical, can't you just be happy that an act of kindness occurred?

I ate alone every day...because I didn't have any friends.

No kidding. They were just trying to be nice guys (which obviously they are). Maybe the photo was taken simply to express the diverse and friendly student body at NCSU...

I'd be willing to bet a lot of those guys like a change of pace too. ARob showed up at our place one time. I talked with him for just a few minutes but he mentioned that it's nice to go somewhere where people just treat you like everyone else. Same thing happened with a couple bball players.

I remember Chris Babb and Scotty C sat at my table for lunch at Convos one time. Me and my friend just started making fun of them/joking around and we never even talked about Basketball once. We did talk about Penn State though and I made fun of Babb for it but whatever. They seemed to enjoy people not gushing over them. Babb even invited us to a couple parties and took the women home that we had brought with us (they're jersey chasers). Good ole Babb... :spinny:Never really saw Scotty (or Royce) at a party.

We also became pretty good friends with Tavon Sledge after that too... Kinda sad he transferred and now we don't have that connection anymore.

If I was going to be cynical I would have speculated that they were trying to get him to do their homework or angling for his table to get a better view of the ladies.

I think Scotty was always in a bar. My son never approaches these guys, but has said Babb, Niang, Booker, and Ejim have all talked to him at various times on campus and seem to be pretty nice guys, Babb having a good sense of humor.

Charity case!! :skeptical:

A lot of jocks are often labeled as ******, so this is a nice way to show that the athletes are just like everybody else.

I can definitely believe this. When you are as famous as him, you can't go to the grocery store without people stopping you and obsessing over you. At first it may be flattering but I bet it gets old really quick. Back to the NC State players, that was a very nice thing for them to do. I'm sure that small thing they did made that kid's day.

The kind you don't take home to mother?
