I just read the ESPN article on hoiberg along with part of the article they posted 4 years ago which mentioned having a former head coach on the staff (bobby lutz), which got me to thinking about this year's assistant coaches:

Did anyone interview Doc Sadler after the game? I'm guessing hilton's a little different in a game like yesterday's sitting on the isu side of the bench

Doc posted something on Twitter, mentioned the atmosphere and how electric it was.

I thought our defense looked much more solid than last year and I assume a good bit of that is due to Doc. Michigan is a great passing team and I felt we did a great job of not letting them run their offense and anticipating what they wanted to do.

What I like about Doc is he does more "in-game" coaching than any assistant Fred's ever had. If you watch, every time out he will talk to a player and work on them, and 90% of the time, when a player is taken out, he talks to them on the bench for what to work on.

Doc is an extremely valuable member of our staff. I hope that he's right there with Fred for a long, long time.

I've been a closet Doc Sadler fan for a while. He's a glass half full guy and works hard. Think he'll be very good for recruiting and some of his defensive coaching is already become evident in the team.

Hoiberg originally hired Lutz & now has Sadler on his bench. While far from a perfect game, the team definitely had an identity with a lot of new players. Whole staff deserves a lot of credit so far (but we have a long season to go).

Hope Rhoads notices. Fred has had 2 former Head Coaches as assistants. The trend needs duplicated in football.

Seems to me we move our feet really well on Defense and I wonder if Doc has something to do with that. Also, did you notice we switched defenders 3x on Stauskas and Houge ended up containing him pretty good - I wonder if Doc made that call too?

Combine Doc with the fact that Kane and Hogue are MUCH better defenders than Lucious and Clyburn were makes a noticeable difference

Just like Bobby Lutz, we are extremely luck to have Doc as an assistant. I hope he stays for a long time too but I'm sure he wants to get back to head coaching (I don't blame he neither).
