High light of tailgating afternoon

Did anyone see the tent/canopy takeoff in that freak gust of wind that acted like a dust devil around 2pm in B6? It must have risen to at least 75 feet in the air and looked like a skydiver coming down! I can see some of our intrepid aerospace engineering students trying to duplicate this amazing feat at the next long afternoon of tailgating! Luckily no one was injured and the tent sustained only minor damage!

There was a canopy near us in g7 that somehow was picked up not very high, twisted in opposite directions then crashed to the ground. I'm sure they wished they used the stakes that came with it.

We were in G7 and our tent got launched after the cabana's umbrella did. Our tent was staked down. True story. Was that the smallest microburst ever or what? It just yanked the stakes right out and sent it flying.

Seriously...there was like a 7 mph breeze...occasionally. And only our tent was affected. It was like only in a narrow band as it sent that umbrella too.

The people we were with in G7 had one of their tents take off and scratched the hood of a guys brand-new truck. He was not pleased.

My tents got destroyed and then I just turned and watched tents to the north of me get picked up and thrown around. That was a crazy, crazy few minutes. For tailgates that were right in line with that dirt devil, tent stakes did no good. It ripped mine right up, tossed one of them up and over a truck, and smashed them back to the ground. There was no way that freak little gust wasn't picking the tent up off the ground, but then 20-30 feet to the side, nothing was even moving.

I was amazed how fast ISU reacted and had people cleaning up the mess so the tailgate could go on.

Too bad there was no video, could have made the highlight reel!

Of course, maybe it was an omen that we would only be able to muster a dust devil type gust in the parking lot and not a full on the field Cyclone?

Confirmed this morning that the trail of the dust devil went from Reiman Gardens, around the west side of the stadium, through lot 85W, then through the B and C lots all the way to Hilton. No luck on finding any video yet, but I would be surprised if ISU doesn't have a camera taping that area at all times.

Holy crap that's awesome. It was quite the sight to see the tents way up in the air.

So we lost the game even though we had a mini cyclone?

I have watched during a pure blue sky, a wisp of a narrow, long cloud going at 40 mph have its far end sneak down to the ground and knock two new houses off their foundation ten miles away while watching from my apartment. Luckily my new house under construction at the time was a block away. It can happen. I have also had a table on my umbrella before get picked up in the air and fly off the deck for fifty feet on an average day.

Stuff happens. The dry ground stakes apparently were no match for this event.

Watched someone let there kids ring the Victory Bell before the game and get chased off by security guards.. I made a comment If we lose its your fault. Felt bad because I have kids and they honestly didn't know they were doing anything wrong. The security lady said yea remember that mans face.. I didn't think much of it... Till the game started.

I was in G7 and watched 4 neighbor tents go flying. Mine was staked down, so I sat with my beer and watched.

Worst of all, one rolled all over other people's vehicles. I would have been ****** if I'd came back and my hood was scratched up :realmad:
