So, I'm not a Civil Engineer...Nor do I play one on TV. However, I along with just about everyone else in Cyclone Nation after a loss want to get the heck outta the parking lots. With that I've always wondered why a more comprehensive approach hasn't been taken to post game traffic control. I know the Athletic Department has been looking at the issue the last several years and my hat is off to them for identifying and trying to remedy the issue. But what about this?

What if for 1 Hour after the game ends the following traffic flow is in place:

1) All the lots immediately surrounding Jack Trice South of 4th and west of University exit from the Southeast 16th street entrance headed south toward Hwy 30 with no need for stopping as barricades would be set up to prevent cross traffic.

2) All Grass lots either exit to SE 16th street heading eastbound (student lots would be able to drive N up University and then west toward campus on S. 4th street to head toward campus, not allowed to turn south.) or into the right lane on S 4th toward Duff. (left lane reserved for the lots E of tent row on the south end)

3)All lots west of tent row exit onto S. 4th westbound only toward Beach. From there they could take Beach To Lincoln Way or down to Mortensen. With the primary suggestion be to Mortensen where they could turn right only to drive west to the S. Dakota interchange.

4)The 2 lots East of Tent Row closest to S 4th exit onto S. 4th and are sent east toward Duff. In the left lane only (right lane for intramural field haunted forest parking use)

5) All remaining lots exit onto Center Drive and east to turn Northbound Toward Lincoln Way and have the option of going any direction from there (West on Lincoln to 30, East to S Duff, whatever)

This may seem restrictive, but given the amount of time spent waiting in lines in the lots because of all the traffic jams caused by crossing paths now I'm willing to wager that the average departure time would drop by about 20 minutes minimum. Traffic would not be allowed to turn south onto University from Lincoln Way, Center, or S 4th.

If those directions don't send you the way you want to go you can get headed the right direction when you get to hwy 30 or somewhere farther away from the stadium. Much of the traffic problems are caused by everyone crossing each others paths.

I could be way outta line not having any training at all in Civil Engineering, but it seems to me that solution eliminates major issues after games.

Anybody out on Fanatic wanna tell me where I'm wrong?

I have a lot more trouble with the basketball release plan than the football one.
I thought that football went pretty well after they adjusted things in G6/G7 last year.

Ha, I have a thought on that too. Basically make a one way clockwise loop on South 4th, Lincoln, beach, and university. Turn Right as much as you want until you are where you wanna go.

I'm a civil engineer. But I know nothing about traffic management. Because that seems really boring.

I think you have South 4th divided. The east side turns left towards Universityelwood, the west side turns right towards Beach. Then their someone else's problem.

I don't drink. That's discrimination.

Never have had a problem leaving the prole G7 lot when needed. Sounds like a 1% problem to me.

Just allow for ******* helicopter parking near the stadium, and Ill be good. Until then, I donate NOTHING!

I don't know when/if I'll make football this year. Partially due to parking and what if issues.

I am starting to wonder if some of the early basketball leavers are due to tiny children though.....
