Best- and worst-case scenario: Iowa State

I said my peace. The comment section on those boards have become so volatile to ISU that it isn't even worth posting. Of course that will be much different with facebook login now. I have a feeling at best he puts us 9th with 4 wins. It is what it is.

I'm not a big fan of Ubben, as many of the ISU faithful aren't either, but I honestly could see either scenario play out. However, I think it's more likely that something in between the two scenarios is where we end up. I see a bit of a dip this year with a gradual climb over the following 3-4 years.

Wouldn't every teams best case scenario be winning every game and the national championship, and worst case scenario would be losing every game? Seems like a strange concept for an article...

Ha that's always bothered me too with those articles. Best case is winning the NCG!

Best and worst realistic scenarios maybe.

Can't really fault Ubben for anything there. 2-10 to 7-5 is all possible. Honestly I think we could do better than 7-5 if all the breaks went our way. But 7-5 is the best reasonable case scenario.

I think he's saying best/worst "realistic" case. I think we could win 8, but I think his worst case is too low--he really thinks we could have as bad of a year Chizik's worst year? No freaking way.

We won't lose to Iowa at home, they're rebuilding as much if not more than we are. UNI, KU, we'll win, and we'll take at least one out of TTU-KSU-WVU-BAY IMO.

So that would put our "worst-case" as 4 wins--not much better, but certainly not Chizik-territory.

It is actually a pretty decent writeup for Ubben, granted, which ain't saying much.. WITH the caveat he needs to change Best Case Scenario to likely/possible. And then make a Best Case Scenario where we beat Tech and Baylor (or Tech and TCU, or something) for an overall of 9-3.

7-5 seems about right for best-case (realistically).

I could envision 8-4 as a peak, but Rhoads hasn't reached 7 regular season wins yet, so that would almost qualify as breakout season (and I think that's at least a year away). But if ISU did actually beat Texas to start 4-0, as in the Ubben scenario — finishing 7-5 would seem like a letdown.

2-10 is too low for worst-case. 3-9 is about right.

I think best case would be more like 8-4. I don't think it would be crazy to beat UNI, Iowa, Toledo, Kansas, Texas Tech and W Viriginia. Those are the easiest games on the schedule (imho). Then just get 2 wins that are a bit harder, like K State and Baylor. I think it would be very unlikely but not impossible.

With ESPN switching to Facebook for comments, I'm out. I use to post on them occasionally and read a lot. Now I'll never post (no Facebook account here) and I'll probably never read either.

I'm always surprised by how willing people are to post their gibberish and nonsense with their real Facebook profiles.

With the high-powered offenses in the conference and a lot of new, young players on defense, we better hope the Pistol works. Getting to 8 wins is going to be difficult this year. 2014 should bring much more promise.

in that case, you just make a bogus facebook and use it.

We'll beat UNI
We'll probably beat iowa. But it certainly wouldnt be inconceivable to lose to, so in a 'worst case' i'll chalk them up as a loss. We've had 2 very close games the last couple years.
Tulsa on the road? Worst case definitely a loss considering how the bowl went.
And in the big 12 schedule, aside from KU there are no guaranteed wins. You can say 'we'll probably win a couple out of TTU-KSU-WVU-BAY', but by saying that you admit that we also could lose all of those if things dont go our way, just as we could go on a tear and win a bunch of tossup games.

So for a worst case scenario 2 wins, while being unlikely, would probably still fall into 'realistic worst case', while 0 or 1 would be unrealistic.

Nothing Ubben said I really disagreed with. I could see both things happen, but the two wins is much more unlikely.
